Yup,nemesis - - They changed the requirements on minimum caliber for proficiency demonstration several years ago, to allow it to be done with a .32. Matt G WAS correct as to how the law was originally written.

As I recall, the old requirement was for ".38 caliber or larger" but this included .380 ACP and 9mm as well. The changeover worked well in that it allowed use of good quality .32 S&W and .32 H&R mag revolvers, as well as the (then) new P32 and Beretta Tomcat. Problem I encountered a couple of times was with people bringing along some really elderly pocket autos, in poor repair, sometimes accompanied by ammo maybe purchased in the 1940s.

Why instructors get gray hair . . . . :p
