Well... I'm back at Tactical Response, and since I was here I went to go shoot Day 2 of a Fighting rifle class.
2 WASR2's one tested, the other came in a couple days ago.

The tested one had a round go behind the bolt and jam, and rounds stick in the chamber.

I shot about 300-400 rounds through it with ~ 10-12 failures.

Finally I couldn't get the round out of the chamber, by prying it, kicking the bolt handle or with a rod.

So I went to my car and grabbed the untested one.

You guessed it, it fired, and the casing didn't even get far enough out to call
it a stovepipe.

I took it to the side and shot it with the topcover off.

Sometimes the hammer strikes would not fire the round, sometimes it would, when it did the rounds would not eject.
-Rifle was degreased, and lightly lubed (Not enough... but I wasn't expecting to shoot it!)

I know it's not the ammo cause I have a couple thousand rounds through a FUNCTIONAL Ak74.

I'll call them tomorrow and tell them to refund my $ and pick up the rifles.
And I'll start looking for a AK74 that works.

Till then my WASR10 which refuses to jam will have to do.

Century went from being "hit and miss" to being mostly "miss".... Wrong approach to the right idea. Imagine a world where Century offered the depth of products they offer - yet still had good, consistent quality??? A local guy I know bought one of their RPK clones. He had to send the first one back, as it looked like it just came off a battlefield - the finsih was horrible. The second one was so badly canted that it was amazing that it made it out of the factory, (well maybe not so amazing). The thrid and final try was a functional weapon with horrible wood and marginal finish. He kept it, but sent it out to be worked over - makes an affordable gun a "cheap" gun and ultimately not so affordable after all....

Century daily earns their reputation of being staffed by monkeys and with their Internet rep, (or lack), it stuns me that they're still in business...

Nomad - any thoughts on Vector, Arsenal, ORF?

Yep... alot of thoughts...

When one thought comes out on top, I'll share.;)

Edited to add: The front runners are a Polish Tantal, and I've got a line on an Armory USA (Global trades... they make good guns)
Both $600 but both are not the 'basic' models.

Jeez, Century has practically NOTHING on their website right now...

That includes ammo as well. Right now, they have a pitiful selection.

Ak-47

I bought a Mac 90 last year ftf and it is just a pleasure to shoot. Very accurate, great trigger and has been 100% reliable. I feel very confident with this rifle.

One of the good things about guns is that if you pay good money, more likely than not you will get a good gun.

Always amusing to hear people taking their "good deal" guns to school and actually shooting them rather than cranking off a magazine at a water heater and declaring the "weapon" "good enough".:D

Hang in there, Nomad. It's a difficult process getting guns that actually work as so much of the firearms market is geared toward people that do not shoot their guns.

True that. I guess that's why I gravitate towards service and martial arms. At least most of these weapons were designed to shoot and shoot hard.

Youre talking about WASR........known JUNK....what did you expect??? :scrutiny:

I bought 19 Yugoslavian AK47s made by century...........all but 1 works perfectly...i returned it for another one....

your Chicken little "the sky is falling" nonsense regarding Century is rubbish...pure rubbish....

you bought junk (WASR), and you GOT JUNK.......dont complain.

WASR and the term JUNK, are interchangable......you got what you paid for....but no...you have to slam Century..

Century doesnt MAKE WASR parts....only assemble them with a USA made reciever and barrel......:scrutiny: :scrutiny: :scrutiny:

Actually a WASR is fully assembled in Romania from all the reject parts after actual military spec AKs are manufactured........ as stated above ya bought the trash, the actual military grade AKs built in Romania are very high quality, the only USA parts Century adds are the Gas piston, pistol grip, G2 FCG and the muzzle device the reciever is a junk commercial only for USA export reciever the rest is the trash that shoulda gotten re-melted down

it amazes me anyone is dumb enough to buy a WASR :scrutiny:

seen lots of them, and about 70% of them have SEVERELY canted sights.

+1 on the "melt that junk down" comment :D

WASR are complete trash, anyone that gets a bad one (is there a good one?) has no right to complain.

everyone over on AK47.net loves their Century made YUGOs and AMD-65s

ive heard very very few complaints about those century builds.

Ummmmm, I have a WASR 10...

I deburred and polished most of the milling marks off it, then reblued the entire rifle, put in a Power Custom adjustable trigger and refinished the furniture while it was off the action. I have a Barska 3x9x40 scope I can slide on using the side mount. A tac-light is also mounted on that setup.

I have about 400 rounds through mine, my sights aren't canted a bit and it functions just fine. Except with a crappy 10 round Chinese magazine, then it will hang the first round. That mag is now is a dump somewhere. The Power Custom trigger was a big improvement over the rotten single stage that had a ton of creep. Now I have it set as a dual stage, minimal creep and breaking at 4.5 pounds.

Guess I got lucky...

i have 2 wasr's, and both work fine. i wanted a couple of knock around fun guns, and they fill the bill. guess i got lucky.

Bull. Century has horrible QC. WASR's are good entry level AK's, if you can find one assembled correctly. The canted sights issue can usually be fixed, but it is a problem that should not exist if Century did their jobs correctly. I don't know if you have followed Nomad's story, glockarmourer, but he placed a several thousand dollar order for two WASR2s and something like 60000 rounds of ammo, and got screwed by Century every step of the way.

I have several WASR10's. One of them went through 9,500-10,000 rounds in 3 weeks.
And works great.

My century experience:
Just so every one is keeping up with the score:

Had a C&R with them for years.

Ordered 60K of 5.45x39

Ordered 6K of 5.45x39 and RIFLES TO SHOOT IT IN Delivered to Tn.

Delivery was a week later than quoted time (And Herb denied he quoted the delivery date)

Ammo arrived... but no rifles

Herb said I didn't order any rifles

Then he found where I did

Rifles arrive the next day... but they are 7.62x39

They admit they are wrong (See it in their paperwork)

Send me 2 rifles, one doesn't work

I send it back

see my first post.

Craig: I like to shoot

To make matters worse Century Int has horrible customer service. The whole PSL recall was a nightmare for me. I sent them a beautiful pristine rifle, and got back a mismatched piece of crap. :fire:

That was bad enough- but every time I'd call the customer service rep got an attitude and a tone with me, as if she was annoyed I was calling. It really made me sick.

You guys can have your Century Arms junkola. I'll keep my Saiga. Made in Russia, made where Mr. Kalashnikov worked, made the right way.

:neener:

Sorry to hear about your experience. :(

I hope you find another AK. (Don't give up on the AK... ;) )

Good luck hunting for another 1...

Try Vector, Arsenal, Polish, Russian ones.

Atlantic Firearms has some and customer service seems good (What I read...)

My 2 cents. :)

it amazes me anyone is dumb enough to buy a WASR

I did. Not intentionally since I ordered it from J&G and didn't know until I went in to pick it up. Ironically, I'd just earned a college degree.

seen lots of them, and about 70% of them have SEVERELY canted sights.

I'd heard about that so I inspected mine very carefully for canted sights. Front sight was on straight. Actually, I've never seen a canted sight on a WASR, and I've seen about 5-7 of them at gunstores.

+1 on the "melt that junk down" comment

I'm going to wait a while before I melt down a piece of junk I paid three hundred bucks for. :p

WASR are complete trash, anyone that gets a bad one (is there a good one?) has no right to complain.

Mine's a good one. It hasn't jammed over several hundred rounds run through various magzines. It will put its rounds into a 4 inch group at 100 yds, which is good enough for me.

I found out that my WASR-10 is scrap metal only after I'd bought it, cleaned it, fired it, zeroed it, and fired it some more. :scrutiny:

Century has been making crappy guns for years, yet folks keep right on supporting them. I don't get it. Remember the junk frankenFALs? I got stung on that one myself. How about the CETMEs? The list goes on and on.

youre all wrong, in fact :D

century outsources their builds......Century is in FL....however they have a 3rd party company in VT making the YUGO guns.......

theres also a few other places they outsource their "builds".

Ive seen lots of century crap....however ive also seen lots of Century builds that are super excellent.

the AMD-65 that century is having built are all 100% Damn awesomely made, of the 20 or more ive seen and held.

Century, like other gun makers work on VOLUME.....if they piss off a $3000 order here or there, they dont give a rats fanny.

ever delt with H & K???? :scrutiny:

Heckler and Koch wont even spit on you to acknowledge you exist unless your a police force or Govt agency placing a minimum $50,000 order.

they could care less about the civlian "schmuck" as they put it.

the company SPECIAL WEAPONS told me outright, they were stopping civilian sales and going "all military"

because they "hate the public, and dont want to deal with them anymore"
yes, thats EXACTLY what they said.....

Century has sent me free parts over the phone without getting the bad/missing parts back.

try that with H & K:scrutiny:
