I'm done with Century

I would never buy a semi-auto that has been put together by Century.

I'm also wary of their grading system for bolt action rifles. Something they grade as 'very good' would probably be graded as 'fair condition' by a better seller.

You have insulted me, while not knowing anything about the situation.

When you were appraised of the situation, you posted your last post. Trying to overcome facts with big letters.

I have a C&R on file, and have several FFL's who have me on their 'approved list'
-In other words, I place an order and say send it to X dealer and they don't call them to Ok it... they just drop it in the mail.

I've been ordering from them for several years, and had made a $7,500+ order and was negotiating a price on another pallet of ammo (That I cancled)
Are you saying that a salesman who is paid on Comission doesn't care about his comission?

One of their managers called me back to try to resolve the issue...
-It would of been ok if their guns had worked.

None of your 'catch phrases' does anything to nullify the FACTS.

Thank you.

PS, it is Century's marketing department in FL and warehouse in Vermont. Same company different locations.

Also, Special Weapons didn't stop selling to the public, the public stopped buying Special Weapons Cr@p! LOL!
Gecko 45???

i have a C&R FFL myself too......:D

youre "special" like i am too ;)

i recall i paid $30 for it........lasts for 3 years (ill have to check my FFL expiration date).

umm, yeah,....my 10 year old nephew could (sic) almost get a C&R FFL

if Century mailed you a bad gun, send it back like the rest of us Humans do. :scrutiny:

So when you have to do that for the 5th time...

Hence my post.

Are you even reading?

Do what you want, I'm done with this.

I think this WASRs are junk is a half-truth. Older WASRs tended to have crap fit and finish. The newer ones however seem to undergo some form of quality control. I have a WASR-2. No, it's not Maadi or Norinco quality, but it functions great, no mag wobble and the furniture is decent. You payed for a $300 gun, what did you expect? A milled Arsenal AK?

I have no problems buying from Century.....as long as they didnt have a hand in the product. I buy countless C&R guns from them.

I actually had a damn good WASR - awesome gun and reliable.

But before that I had a lemon CETME.......

Nomad,2nd... after reading that, i can understand why you're upset. as for the 60,000 round comment, i'm jealous.:p

I just exchanged several e-mails with an officer of Aim Surplus regarding their AK-74. He told me that the rifle is all-Romanian except for the trigger pack. The receiver is Romanian. He also stated that he has one and it is good. I am interested in getting an AK-74 (5.45 by 39) but don't want to be stuck with an inferior product.

I've had okay luck with Century guns. Definitely a get-what-you-pay-for thing, and both rifles I've bought from them (FAL and AK) were okay and have been pretty pain free to date (AK took about 10 seconds of fix, once I sorted out what the problem was . . .). It seems like I've had pretty good luck with them compared to some people, but I tend to take them with a grain of salt now, and would definitely do some research and then detailed inspection of something I was thinking of buying from them.

I just got my AK in the other day, A WASR with the Black TAPCO folding stock and Galil black plastic foregrip. Put almost 500 rounds thru it the first day. Not a problem (except the rifle won't function with the stock folder - the charging handle bumps the butt of the stock, I'm a little disappointed about that.)

The mag wobbles like the chin on a fat guy, and the sights are slightly canted (if by canted you mean the sight post is either far left or far right) but the rifle is actually pretty darn accurate. Fit and finish... well, it's a $300 rifle, whadduya expect?

I don't think this is necessarily a Century Issue, more of the fact that it seems to me that the Cugir Arsenal needs to tighten down their production lines (though I think Century needs to do some more testing on these weapons)...

The US made parts on this rifle are in that post, and I couldn't find a website with that information, but I am sure that those are the US parts on the WASR series of rifles.

Do note on the WASR series that as I recall it was designed to accept single stack magazines...I think this article confirms my point:

Century actually does have two Vermont Corporations (Century Arms, Inc. and Century International Arms, Inc.) and I know they have a Vermont facility, however I do believe they do have companies they outsource to build parts for them, yet I think they (Century) do the assembly.

Nomad, I understand your frustration, and it is rightfully there. Heck I expect a product to work out of the box. I have experienced the same thing in the computer components/ electronics industry. It is kind based on luck of the draw and I think it would be best to get ahold of a century representative and explain the troubles you are having and see what they can do for you.

Just as a note, I am not an AK owner however when looking for an AK I would definitely look at paying the 100$ more (for the wood stock on sale) Yugo M70...

I took my WASR 10 out yesterday, just because of this thread...

Ran 100 rounds of Golden Tiger through and again, I don't know what else I'd want an AK to do, the WASR didn't do. No failures of any type and I ran one group of 60 rounds into a 5" bull. The rifle is not a piece of junk!

I have had about a dozen rifles from Century, and several handguns. I have had one problem, a broken firing pin out of the box. I returned the gun to Century, they replaced it and paid for shipping.
I have a 2001 Century FAL that is a fine shooter.
I'm sorry about your problems with this company. Better luck elsewhere.

LOL.

Hey - I ended up getting a Saiga .223 sporter. Just have to mod it a bit (stock, grip, mag etc) but it's definitely quality.

I have had a Century CETME and FAL. Both would not function at all. I will never buy another rifle that they have assembled themselves.

I have bought a lot of ammo from them. They are one of the top ammo sellers, if not the #1 ammo seller, in my book. I'll never forget when they had a special on Turkish 8mm ammo for 3 cents per round, shipped! I bought 4,000 rounds for $120, shipped. Incredible deal.

A while back I went to a shop that had 5 WASR-10s from Century on the rack. Every single one had canted sights. That is inexcusable in my opinion. I picked the one that had the best finish and furniture of them all and bought it. Honestly it still was a pretty poor finish. I wasn't looking for anything to win a fashion show with. The action on this one is also a bit rough but they all were pretty rough. I've only put 200 rounds through that one and it functioned perfectly. I am in the middle of cleaning up the furniture on it but I'm already thinking about trading it. I like AKs but honestly I don't think Century does a very good job overall with them. Out of the dozens of things they have worked on that I've seen or owned, almost all of them displayed poor workmanship in one way or another. If you want something cheap and fun they get the job done though. I won't slam them too bad because they do serve a purpose. They are getting less cheap it seems. My last trip to the shop they were $399!

100 rounds through a weapon is a three minute drill, not an all day grinder

No kidding. Especially through an AK. Something about an AK just makes you want to burn through a lot of ammo. I'm sometimes surprised when a mag is empty because 30 rounds goes so quick.

You do, of course, realize the Romanian AK you are buying from AIM more than likely came into the country via Century, right??

100 rounds through a weapon is a three minute drill, not an all day grinder.

Take was WASR to gun school and report back.

A rifle is a rifle is a rifle... Total of 500 rounds through the weapon. I had no failures on the first 400 rounds and gave it another work-through with that 100 round run. If there was a problem with the weapon, it would have manifested itself by now.

If I have 500 rounds through a weapon with no failures, I'm confident the weapon is sound. Especially since I'm dealing with a well-established platform, like the AK. Proven designs are not test fired hundreds of times before they are put in the field. There will be no surprises, the weapon has proved itself and is ready to go to hell and back.

I'm well aware of 1911 snobbery, is there AK snobbery as well? :neener:

Century has a hit or miss reputation. But it is telling that they are the only company that I know if that uses parts to manufacture an AK 47 derivative that doesn't work. Thats pretty hard to do.

On the other hand, I've got a Century FAL and its been perfect. Its even made with a Hesse receiver supposedly the worst FAL receiver ever made depending on who is on the internet that night. But Mine has never missed a beat since I bought it after 9/11. Its accurate an reliable. I was going to buy a DSA rifle but I have no reason to. This rifle is everything I could have asked for at a third of the price.

From what I've read their Galil copies are very good. Like I said earlier hit or miss. You're best bet is a good dealer with a good return policy.
