Stockman warns President push for gun control could lead to impeachment

WASHINGTON – From Congressman Steve Stockman - Congressman Steve Stockman (R-Texas 36th) released the following statement Monday afternoon.

The White House’s recent announcement they will use executive orders and executive actions to infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms is an unconstitutional and unconscionable attack on the very founding principles of this republic.

I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment.

After obamas speech, they interviewed him on UK's CNN.. He is a bumbling fool and should not be allowed on TV. He will do more harm than good.

You get the feeling that Obama could have said, "we're going to repel the restriction on fully automatic weapons" and this guys response wouldn't have changed a bit.

There was nothing the President could have said that would make the fire breathing stop.

I actually called Rep. Steve Toth and spoke with one of his staff. I explain that I was from NC, but would give anything to have a representative that would stand up for my rights, the way he did for Texas gun owners. We (his assistant and I) spoke for about ten minutes and I explained how, even though I was not a resident in the state of Texas, I was going to contribute to his campaign. I will do so, and include a letter explaining why. I explained that my wife and I have considered moving our family to Wyoming,Texas or Nevada for a few years. Nevada is off he table due to the sway of Rep.Harry Reid, but I might hang my hat in Texas before it is all said and done....

C'mon to Nevada. Harry ain't gonna live forever.

As much as I loathe Mr Obama's political views (and I do), impeachment is simply not appropriate here. He may want or stand for or even attempt to do something many of us consider unconstitutional, but our opinions aren't a legal basis for impeachment. Impeachment was not meant to be used as a political tool or popularity contest.

Only if Mr Obama's actions are declared illegal by a court of law (and likely then only if he continues in defiance of that court finding) would his actions become a "high crime" worthy of impeachment.

Until that point, as much as I understand the feeling, the only "political tool" involved is the good Congresscritter in question. He needs to pipe down and quit making us look like redneck idiots to the rest of the world.

uh, lessee here, number ONE: He swore an oath to uphold the constitution. I don't think I need to list two-anymore.

I agree Texan Scott, I just don't think I will stop here. I think he will have more up his sleeve. If he oversteps his power and further infringes on our 2A rights, I think he should be held accountable. I hope it never comes down to it, but we are one bad press coverage/shooting away from it.

@Monet61, I love Nevada. The wife and I spent a few weeks there in 2010. I cannot wait to go back, we are planning our next vacation there.

I completely agree that he should be held accountable for further restricting our rights.

I have a friend who just moved from California to Idaho. He says its great there. His local sherif signed his suppressor letter on the spot.
