Hi All

I had some business to take care of at my state DMV. When you get there you take a number and wait. Since the wait usually takes 1-1 1\2 hrs I always take something to read, almost always firearm related. Never had anybody give me a second look until today. I had my copy of Gun Traders Guide 29th Edition. I walked in, took my number and sat down on the end chair of a row. I opened my book and started reading it minding my own business. About 5 min later the lady next to me gets up, never to return. About 15 min later I look up and the next 4 chairs to me are empty. I return to my reading and about 50 min later my number is called. I walk up to the counter and set my book down on it and gave my number ticket to the clerk. All of a sudden he holds his hands up in the air, points at my book and mumbles something I didn't understand. I quickly pulled the book off the counter and he calms down. I was using the book as a file folder to hold my paperwork as it is convenient to do so. Anyway I completed the rest of my business without any trouble and walked out although I did get the feeling that people were looking at me but I did not care as I had done nothing wrong. Although at one point I almost expected a Swat Team to come through the door. Anyway so much for my excitement of the day.

As far as looking like a gun toting wacko I am 56 yrs old, 5' 9", 165 lbs. balding grey hair and beard, wear a neck brace because I have severe degenerative arthritis of my neck along with other problems, wallk with a limp and am a doting grandfather to my 4 month old granddaughter. I think something is wrong here but I thought I would let the forum help me on this one. Thanks to you all for reading my rant.

Agreed, something was indeed wrong. There must have been a farmer there at the same time, and rather than keep his sheep in his truck, he brought them in and let them have the run of the place.

Well no wonder they were afraid with you carrying such a Big Caliber book.

592 pages!!! Talk about a high capacity.

I'm just glad that you didn't thumb through the pages real quick, that would have been Full Auto!!!

LOLOLOLOL

Now I know how to get people to leave quickly to reduce the wait. You should have wandered around the room, making people nervous:evil:

Right to keep and bear arms, freedom of the press...ban 'em both.

Support literacy.

I wonder if you would get extra time for using a book about guns to hold up a convenience store...

Aha, a new technique for always ensuring that I get in the shortest, fastest line. Just to be on the safe side, I think I'll also carry a small reloading pamphlet as back-up. All I can figure is that some folks have unrealistic phobias regarding paper cuts . . .

Hmmmm. . . . I'll have to try that tactic the next time I have to go to the DMV. Whatever works. . . .

When I worked full time as a computer consultant, I bought a lot of parts from a Russian owned computer dealer. All of the Russian owned companies in town had a wretched reputation for customer service, one of them even threatening to have a dissatisfied customer KILLED!

Whenever I had to go to the the exchange/service department, I ALWAYS had some kind of gun book or magazine, frequently "Smallarms Review". I NEVER got anything but the most excruciating politeness!

If they called a SWAT team on a man in a neck brace with a limp over a book I bet you could sue them for quite a lot. :D

Sir, you should thank your lucky stars that you were not subdued by men in full tactical gear with copies of SWAT Magazine. :neener:

BTW, INS is now called USCIS. Is there a crime wearing clothing marked INS when it doesn't exist anymore?

I don't want to hijack the thread, but a similar thing will happen at the UPS center when the clerk tosses 2,000 rounds of ammo on the counter for you to sign for. Other customers will quickly distance themselves from you and you will get THE LOOK. You know what the look is. Dismay that so much ammo is available anywhere and outright fear that you have it. I feel good about looking so dangerous.

Doting?

What cartridge for doting?

Holy cow.

Or sheep.

Some kind of livestock, anyway.

DMV . . .

Next time you COULD bring a white cane.
