As I was walking into walmart today I glanced over and saw the neatest video game in the entry. It was called Sports Shooting USA and appears to be a combination of IPSC and IDPA style gun games.

I didn't have the money to play it but I sat and watched the computer demo the various stages. It was pretty neat, there were silhouettes, no-shoots, hostage targets, pop-ups and steel (pepper poppers and disks) to blast to blast away at.

The guns were full out race guns with a simulated red dot site. (the tube had one of those fiber optic rods running through it. made aiming with both eyes open difficult.)

I didn't count the magazine capacity but it was more the ten rounds.

All in all I thought it was a perfect device to introduce people to the concept of shooting as more then hunting and redneck militia types playing army. (We know it isn't that way, but the sheep don't.) It also showed a "sporting purpose" for full capacity magazines and defensive handguns. Best of all it showed the use of a firearm in defensive situations. Not perfect mind you, but it is a start.

Time to start checking the floor boards for quarters again.

It was a coinop stand-up game.

It would be neat to have a home version on your console of choice, with a lightgun though.

I'm afraid that I'd be seen in public going for the reload that isn't there or thinking the light gun is a start prop and dropping it to draw my real blaster. Prolly give blue haired greeter a coronary. Sounds great, can I get one for my living room.

Something cool for the local gun club clubhouse too.

[Lazy man/] Bet I could find some stage design ideas in there :D [/]

Sad...

That game is the closest a UK subject can get to IPSC/IDPA. I wonder if the same company is researching airgun games for when those are banned too.

If it handles reloads like any other arcade shooting game, you reload by aiming the gun somewhere offscreen and pulling the trigger.

Another really, really cool game to check out is 'Police 911-2' It has a gun, as well as a bunch of sensors that detect where you're standing. You can hide behind cover, peak around corners and such. Very cool game, if you get a chance to play it, give it a try.

Skunkabilly,

Probably not. Florida is a pretty gunfriendly state in general. This walmart seems to be very gunfriendly in particular, they recently expanded into a super walmart and dramatically increased their shooting section.

My favorite shooter arcade game is Crisis Zone, where you a have a SMG with some kind of recoil setup, it's sweet. The backgrounds are really interactive, your SMG is tearing ???? up all over the place, love that game. From the same company (Namco) that makes the Time Crisis games if you're familar with those.

A local restaurant / teen hangout has this game. I played it a few times while my wife, son and I were eating there. Soon I found myself trying to go there so I could play again LOL. I shoot IDPA and some of the pointing skills carry over to that game. Im a sad sad little man... gunz on teh brainz

I also guess that part of my enjoyment is when I whip the crap outta these kids playing it :) Gotta go and eat there about once per week to keep the old mans name on top ya know... at least thats the excuse I use with the wife :p

I was never a video guy...even as a kid.But recently my wife and I double dated w/ this couple...the girls were going off to shop and we were going to a movie. We had time to kill,so the guy goes"let's play some video games."I see one where you have to shoot zombies or something,so I'm thinkin'"ok I can shoot pretty good, better than this guy anyway,he don't even own a gun!"....long story short...I sucked.....I hope I never get jumped by zombies!!!Nothing like actual shooting...I was AIMING and I couldn't hit squat......after wasting like $5 on this stupid game I found myself making excuses and Saying "well I can shoot REAL guns good."I was having a flashback to 7th grade.............keep your games, give me the real thing......

the 'Police 911' game is really cool. i always make sure i have an extra half hour and ten bucks to spend when i go to the movies so i can play it. you get a great cardio workout from having to duck down, stand up, lean left, right, i leave the game sweaty and stinky!
while speed is important to the game, often having patience and waiting a couple seconds behind cover will allow innocents to run out of the way. every civilian and fellow officer you hit lowers the time you have left to complete the stage. doubletaps are your friend in the game. one shot often isnt enough to put a BG down.

I Concider myself an In-shape guy..... Im 30, 6'2 195 ... and Waterski as another obsession..... When In Atlanta for business they had The Police 911 game in the Lobby... I played it for about 20 min......I was sweating my A$$ off....for the next week I could barely walk, my sore muscles had sore muscles. What a workout .....helluva great game !!

I see one where you have to shoot zombies or something,so I'm thinkin'"ok I can shoot pretty good, better than this guy anyway,he don't even own a gun

That must've been House of the dead. Hint: Zombie weak spot is the head.
There is a hunting game at my university, I'm surprised the PETA types haven't protested yet.

I hope to find that sport shooting game sometime.
