[Rumor]
Hillary Clinton, in an unprecedented move, seeks the presidential nomination of her party - from the floor if necessary. She is (somewhat) quoted as saying, "I will support, and help in every way possible, our party's candidate for president in 2004." Contrary to her support statement for John Kerry, she delivered her statement in the American media.
[/rumor] :uhoh:

bring it on...

You don't know how much a Clinton VP would stir the GOP hornets nest.

If she enters, I predict a record campaign contributions for a presidental election, even accounting for inflation.

What's a girl to do.....

Try and run over Edwards for the vp job and go with Kerry this time round? In 8 years she could take a shot at Job 1 as the Dem presidential candidate??....?

Or....

Keep quite and hope Bush cleans Kerry's clock. That way she gets her shot 4 years earlier?...$...???

Decisions, decisions....

Rumor from S- start

Bush follows the "plan" Bush senior came up with and looses either way during the upcoming election (sorry my fellow Rebublicans) and given 8 years of Kerry/Edwards or Kerry/Clinton, NO Dem has any hope of winning the following election.

She ends up a political old maid, never a bride...

Rumor from S- ends

I think her fate is sealed this go round. The Dems see Kerry as a winner and all the better, they see him at the very center of the Liberal Dem Universe and all that is good and just regarding liberal government and anti government and big governemnt all at the same time. (it's not supposed to seem logical so don't go there)

VP Hillary in '04? I don't think so. There would have to be some MAJOR behind the scenes arm twisting for Kerry to pick a VP that will greatly overshadow him, in media attention if nothing else.

"I will support, and help in every way possible, our party's candidate for president in 2004."
(Meaning she will support herself). The "rumor" stipulates that SHE will accept the presidential nomination and bump Kerry.

(And, of course, we've read a couple "Bill for VEEP" comments here among our brothers and sisters). But that's another story.

So... what if... ?

Constitutionally, I don't think Bill could be Veep. If the prez kicks off to the great bye and bye, the Veep takes over, and BillyBoy can't. He's already served his Constitutionally limited 2 terms.

I don't think she'll take / make an overt grab for either the #1 or #2 slot this cycle. There will be some serious in-fighting for control of the financial mechanisms of the DNC.

Kerry’s people do not trust McAuliffe and his people. And, I don’t think McAuliffe will vacate the DNC without a fight.

FWIW, I think Kerry will be the Bob Dole of this election cycle. He gets the Dem’s nod, because it’s his turn, and there’s no one better right now. But, get him on the trail, and he won’t measure up in the head to head matches.

To say nothing about his life insurance premiums shooting into the stratosphere :what: :scrutiny: :D .

Thats why a Clinton VP spot would be good for ol' crunchypants.

She runs with Kerry as VP, Kerry loses, she's in good standing for 2008 to run as the main ticket.
She runs with Kerry as VP, Kerry wins, Kerry gets Vince Foster-ed, she's Prez.

That's two consecutive terms.

No, it's two terms period. Here's the amendment...

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

Nothing said about the X-Prez being VEEP, right? But if prez goes away the succession must go to next in line and Veep takes a walk if previously serving as Prez??!! Sounds like a loophole some where unless sealed by something.

Maybe we should ask Craig about that BEFORE it happens.

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice

It says no person shall be ELECTED to the office of President more than twice. Says nothing about a VP taking over for a dead president.

Don't really know how the Supreme Court would interpret it, and I don't know if there has ever been any mention of this in a Supreme Court case (dicta).

I rather doubt BillyBoy would want the Veep slot anyway, which makes this whole point moot.

He'd want center-stage, nothing less. Now, Hillary, on the other hand, might be willing to take the Veep slot if she thought that was her best chance for a springboard into the not-quite-circular office.

To BillyBoy that would be as close to ideal as it would get since he can't be Prez again anyway. Besides, we all know who really called the shots in the Clinton administration, so it really wouldn't be all that different for him anyway.

This is how it is going to go down...

Bush wins 2004

Rice vs. H. Clinton 2008

Clinton will win 2008 & 2012

Then Jeb Bush in 2016 & 2020

See, nice pattern eh?

Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton, Bush...

And to think there are over 200,000,000 people in this country...hmmm?

If a pres has served two terms he cannot be elected to a position of vice president either.

Amendment XII

"... But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of
President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United
States."

Not that he would, but that means that GW could name his one-term father as Veep, right?

Of course that would probably pull his fuel line at 30,000 ft and he'd crash and burn.

Now as far as Am. XII is concerned (for us readers but not experts at things constitutional), does this mean that the Veep doesn't actually have to be from the same party as the president-elect or his duly selected running mate? Separate vote counting as stated?

Hmmm... interesting, if so.
