Is it just me or is the Remington 597 not as tolerant of neglect as the 10/22?

It might be my imagination, but it seems like my cousin can't go nearly as long as I can without the gun getting so gummy that the bolt looks like its swimming through glue in the receiver.

Sounds like he's using too much of the wrong kind of oil on his 597. I use only Dri-Lube on mine and it never gums up. Most of the Outers and Hoppe's gun oil will get gummy if it sits for a while.

In my experience, the 10/22 is more tolerant of gummed up oils because of the single guide rod and looser clearances.
