Is the 204 Ruger going to be around for a while?

Don't own a .204 either.....but would like to...
I agree with that statement. For those of us who can't afford it, a .204 seems like it wouldn't suit our needs as well as, say, .223. But, if I could afford one, I'd buy it in a heartbeat--but that can be said for many, many, many firearms out there :p . If you can buy it--do so, get a range report, post it (with some pics!). If not....buy something else, get a range report, post it with some pics :D .

I bought the .204 because I wanted something different and I handload, so ammo is not a problem. 1100 rds so far and accuracy is still as good as it ever was. It actually slices the wind quite well, in fact I ignore the wind under 300 yds unless it's really blowing.

Recoil does play a role in the decision making if you shoot alone, without a spotter. You don't need one with the .204 and a varmint weight rifle - you can see it all happen right through the scope.

To me it seems faddish, but what do I know? The entire performance span of centerfire cartridges could be more than filled with 10 entries so stuff like 204 Ruger is to stimulate (it is hoped) demand for something new. I figure in ten years it will be a curiosity with sky high ammo.

I would think the 17 caliber rimfires would lose their attraction once people realize the cost of ammo and no way to reload.

I pretty much bought US military caliber weapons as surplus ammo is always available. I have a few pets chambered for proprietary ctgs, but nothing in a sub 22 caliber.

Seems to me, everytime a cartridge is necked down to shoot a smaller bullet faster and further, it usually becomes a hit. So why not a 204 over a 223?
For you 223 fans, I'm not attacking your favored round. I'ts not like the both can't subsist independently and maintain their own followings. No? On that point....does anybody care to deride the merits of the .17 HMR that was derived from the 22 mag?

And who said the noise and recoil of shooting the 22-250 is little different then firing that necked down 223 case with 20 cal pills?

Will it be around awhile? Yes, I think so.

Should you get a more standard caliber anyway? Yes.

If you want a screamer, get the .17 Rem - 20 gr @ 4,300 fps. It's been filling that role for what, decades? If you just want a good longish-range varminter, get a .223. It will work just as well, for 99.9% of the scenarios, and components are much cheaper.

Out of all the new cartridges thats recently hit the market, the 204 is the only one that grabbed my attention.Ultra mag, short mag, super short mag, yada yada yada.I don't know, maybe it's because it dosn't have the word "MAGNUM" stuck on it.:neener:
