I've been wanting to get into long range shooting for some time, but never made the jump. Now I find a used CZ550 HET in 338 Lapua being offered with a nightforce scope for $1,500. Sounds like a great deal but still have some reservations.

The main attraction here is the price; $1,500 for the rifle and scope. The scope alone carries that price tag, and the rifle had an original msrp of over $3k.

Now the bad. The rifle has a stainless barrel. From the little info on the web I only came across one other with a stainless barrel. A quick call to CZ USA confirmed they've only released that rifle from the factory with a blued hammer forged carbon steel barrel. So is it a re-barreled action or custom build? I found this listing on GB http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=541285621 that indicates it could be one of three built by Lothar Walther. If true the barrel wouldn't be a drawback.

So what do you guys think? Good deal, or stay away?

Here are some pics the seller sent me.

The tiled background in the Gunbroker ad is identical to the pics the seller sent you.
The seller sent you the pictures from the Gunbroker ad.
Ask him to send you a picture of the rifle with a newspaper dated today next to the rifle.

I bet you never hear from him again.
If I need to spell this out.
This sounds like a scam.
A pretty bad one at that.
I would notify the seller on Gunbroker that his photos are being used to try and scam people.

Oh man! Don't know how I missed the tile background. I didn't look at the GB pics too closely and focused more on the description, but you're right, they are identical. I may notify the GB seller.

That barrel looks really short for a .338 Lapua Mag. You want a 27" barrel to make full use of the cartridge's potential. Also, $1500 price tag is way too low.

Kit, there is no joke. A seller is trying to scam him, sending him pics from a GB listing that he found in looking to reference the piece.

Luckily thump pointed this out to him. Saved him from losing 1500$

Good thing he posted here. If it is too good to be true, it usually is

Totally a scam. The "seller" put an add on armslist using the same pictures as a Gunbroker listing. I asked to meet up with him to look at the rifle and no response. No way would I buy any firearm without seeing it in person first, so the scammer is waiting for the right guy to come along and send him payment in the hopes of getting the rifle shipped. Definitely too good to be true.
