I put a new 18 inch barrel on a 10/22 rifle and then placed the whole thing into an aftermarket 22 Charger stock. This is essentially the Ruger Charger pistol grip stock, as in no shoulder stock.
The overal length of the gun is now 26.25 inches and the barrel is 18, as mentioned above.
So is this a legal custom assembly? I think so as my research so far shows this ATF information:
