Ithaca Ka-Boom!

So a guy brings in a 1920's vintage Ithaca double Sunday. About half way down from the receiver to the muzzle one of the barrels is blown open. He asks us what happened. Obviously there was some kind of obstruction in the barrel we respond.

Too bad. Very nice gun, probably would have brought $1500 without the hole.

Now, as Oscar Madison would say, "It's garbage." From a resale point of view anyway

If its a good receiver, for about $1700 Briley will put a new barrels on it. and it will look perfect. While this cuts the collector value, it does give him a really good shot gun, now with tubes, and brand new barrels.

It probably had flues barrels and they don't mix with even the lowest powered modern shotgun shells. What a shame. This most likely could have been avoided with low pressure shells.

It still has some value if you register it as a short barrel shotgun. Then cut the barrels off at about 12" and remount the front sight.
