It's Here!!(pics added..)
After the longest weekend ever(),the Surefire M73 quad rail non-free float forend I ordered last week arrived today. I got the last one they had in stock, so a possible backorder slip got turned into a weekend wait !
I think I will be very happy with my purchase. The rails appear to be much closer to,"mill spec", than the First Samco M33 Handgurard(that will now hold the light for my pistol), which would make sense with the Surefire being machined aluminum. The two "set screws" tension the handguard forward and backwards against the handguard cap, and the delta ring are small but seem very sturdy. Install took all of 2 minutes from removing the old handguards, to tightening the second set screw. Nothing else required. While I have not fired any rounds yet, my Bushie M4 is now seriously pimping! I figured why spend another $150-$200 on a Free Float tube to sqeak out the ultimate in accuracy on a close quarters, mutant zombie, TEOTWAWKI fighting carbine. I mean, if I need to take a 300yrd+ shot with my M4 I am probably screwed anyway due to velocity loss, and the miniscule accuracy increase is just not worth it on a 14 1/2" H-bar rifle. I would like to hear from anyone else that has a good or bad review of a surefire(or other)non-free float handguard. Screws loose, out of spec rails, perfect fit, best purchase ever; whatever you got I want to know. So gimme your gripes and top picks, but please keep it non-free float tubes, you know the ones for us frugal people(read as: po' fokes)
PS- I installed the forend but have not used LOCKTITE(recommended by Surefire) to secure the set screws yet. Question: Where do I find Locktite(242 specifically)? I mean, is it at Walli World, or do I need to look somewhere else ? Thanx in advance for the help, and if you know how to use it(I am sure it is simple but I like info), I would appreciate it.
PSS- If someone will tell me how to post a pic of my now Pimped out AR, I will. Currently it has the A3 carry handle mounted, with 4x fixed .223 bullet drop compensated scope mounted high up top(100-500 yds compensated),
A2 stock(next to be rectified , Surefire forend with forward mounted Panorama red-dot scope(Japanese),and Scorpion flashlight in a First Samco mount( and no all that will not stay on there, even though it's still as light as my loaded AK, but the M4's got 2 scopes and rails that = BLING)
Daytime: No flashlight, Both optics(I got bad eyes for a young guy)
Nighttime: NO 4x fixed scope, add flashlight
I do not believe I will add a forward grip, because even with ALL the above mentioned crap on the M4 at one time AND a loaded magazine it still feels light and fairly easy to handle(I can still point and hold it straight out like a pistol with one arm, and without falling over.
Too Many Choices(and now I got a lot more, ain't options great? !!)
