It's not really a bullet swager...

But, what is it's actual name? Lee is the brand. I pour warmed Alox lube in a pan, set the bullets in, (topside up), then use this single 'cookie cutter' once the lube has cooled.

I need one in .453. Anyone got one to get rid of or know the official name of this component so I can search for one?

No, it's not a bullet sizer. I have some of them. They are chromed/stainless. This is aluminum and is a thousanth of an inch or so larger. Just larger to cut the lube. After that, then yes, I do use a bullet sizer.

Man that pic is huge....took forever to download on my dialup connection!! So it doesn't really size the bullet. It just allows you to cut it out of the hardened Alox then and then you run it thru the sizer?? I thought the whole idea of the Alox was to let you avoid the hassle of a sizer.

It is a lube cutter.

Sheldon, alox lube is traditionally a solid lube. Lee Liquid Alox is a different animal, and that is what is usually used when shooting unsized bullets.

Hmmm... An all too simple name of just a 'Lube Cutter'.

Now for the really tough part. Where to get one in the size I need. Lee doesn't list it on their website. I've emailed them but no response yet. They still offer the Alox sticks though, so I don't think this is an out dated process. I have used the Alox liquid, but have had great results in years past doting it the old way with .38cal. Now I want to try with .45acp. So, I need a lube cutter in .453. I'll resize to 45cal (.452)

Oh, and the 'hassle of the sizer'... I want to see how accurate I can get my own lead. So to me, that's just another step in the process to attain quality.

Well, Lee hasn't answered my email yet. Guess I'll just have to call them. Problem is, I haven't seen one of these on the store shelves around here. Nor is this thing on Lee's website. Does anyone know of another vendor that offers tools like this (Lee Precision), that I could purchase one from? .454" would work fine since I plan on sizing the bullets anyway.

So, I guess I'm looking for some new/old stock or a used lube cutter in .453-.455ish.

Some of the old timers used to make their own. Taking a long case of correct diameter and cutting off the head. A .45-90 fired case may work here.

I was just down in the gunroom, reassembling my new 45. And I looked at one of my belted magnum cases... It's time to turn in, so I didn't grab the dial caliper. But the same thought rambled through my brain.. I'll look at that tomorrow evening. Even if this is successful, I still want to find one of the correct tool.

Thanx for the input though. If any of you frequent the gun shows, And see one of these for 45cal, please pick one up for me.
