REading all this BP stuff of late got me so fired up I spent 75 bucks on a clunker!
Well actually my Dad has been after me for a few years to "find me a revolver" of the C&B variety just to hang on a wall.
In a shop yesterday I saw a revolver with some rifles marked "wall hangers only" and when I asked about the revolver was told "it doesn't work"
Well having prices some of the non firing display guns and seeing how poorly they looked I thought "hey, this is cheaper than those things and a real gun"
SO now I have a replica nothing .44 Colt type. It bears a strong resemblance to the Pietta Brass frame "reb" Cabella's used to sell (still do?)
Camera trouble so just some discriptions and questions.
It is brass framed, though I initially did not notice as the tarnish is so heavy.
Markings include an asterix over a sheild, and an astrix over the letters PN on the right frame side right barrel side near the chamber and on the cylinder near one web......pretty much just like the affor meantioned Cabellas Pietta.
Between the proof on the frame is "XXX". Not sure if it is the Roman Numeral 30 or three big hugs.
The three oclock barrel flat (octagonal barrel) bears, "CAL .44 NAVY MODEL - MADE IN ITALY"
The seven to eight oclock flat bears, "BLACK POWDER ONLY"
The Six oclock flat bears the letters "COM" in a rectangle right next to the loading lever cuttout.
A three didgit serial number appears on the lower bow of the barrel group and on the trigger guard.
The cylinder, frame, and bottom of the pistol grip are all slightly shorter than the Cabella's gun. The frame does have the window cut for the two diameter .44 cylinder like an 1860 type, but is shorter than the cabellas gun.
I am going to need a bolt, bolt/trigger spring, and a spring screw.... and Dad may end up with out a revolver yet. And as I was reassembling it a cap of ancient orign fell out of it so it has been at least snapped on caps.
How can I tell what kind of parts to buy? That is, what manufacturer and what Colt model frame parts?
And remember to feel guilty because this is YOUR fault!
