Crossbreed supertuck deluxe & Com-Tac Minotaur MTAC Holster. Has anyone used either to carry a full size 1911? what are your likes, dislikes between them?
Both seem to be very good holsters my concern is crossbreed looks like it uses an open end style holster exposing part of the gun end if so has this caused any problems or concerns? looking to purchase one any info will be a great help in deciding which. or is there another brand i need to look at. TKS

Both of my 1911 IWB holsters are open end and I can't think why that would be a problem. Most of my OWB holsters, including the Yaqui Slide, are as well and they've never caused any problem. I assume you're concerned about the front sight snagging on the draw since it is exposed?

The predominant issue with open-ended holsters is that a holster that is too short for the gun (e.g. slide) can let the gun get pushed up-and-out if you're careless when you sit down. A holster that is open-ended but sized for the length of the gun slide is A Good Thing in my opinion, since it doesn't collect dirt and moisture the way that a closed one will.

I am a fan of the Minotaur and it's what I use most often when I carry a 1911. I use the OWB Minotaur since I detest IWB carry.

I agree with this. My one experience with a holster that leaves the slide exposed was with an OWB holster. The muzzle did catch on arm chairs while sitting and nearly launched the pistol out, and the muzzle constantly made contact with a seam on my back pocket eventually tearing the seam and leaving a hole in my pants. Of course these are probably not problems that would occur with an IWB holster.

Since you asked, Milt Sparks is an excellent source for quality holsters. The Versa Max II (VM II in forum speak) and the Summer Special and Summer Special II are some of the most popular and copied holsters on the market.

Brownell's usually carry's the Summer Special II if you don't want to wait for Sparks to build you one. Brownell's also offers holster from other makers as well, such as the Alessi PCH.

Check out Next Holsters. I recently purchased the Guardian 1911 IWB/ OWB. The leather work is excellent and really holds the gun snug. It is very comfortable. I bought mine for 60.00 at the gun show but just google Next Holsters and you will see their link. You can flip the clips to allow for whichever mode of carry you prefer whether its owb or iwb. The only exposed part of the gun is what's sticking up above your belt line. Give me a second and I will post a pic of mine in action lol.

Sorry, I'm having some difficulties. I'm trying to attach a pic using my mobile device but it won't let me. I will be happy to email you the pic if you'd like.

I prefer dm bullard dual carry holsters myself for personal carry. For security duty carry I use a black hawk serpa level two retention holster.
