I've asked this question on the 642 thread, but I also want to ask on the open forum.
I'm looking for a comfortable ankle rig that I can wear for about 10-12 hours a day for my 642. I'd like something thats compact enough not to print too much. My job is 50% desk and 50% walking.
Any suggestions, good rigs or bad rigs is very much appreciated.
Thanks

Apache

I have had five different rigs for the 637, and they all were either uncomfortable, printed a lot, or terribly expensive. The one I wear every single day, sometimes for 24 hours or more, is the Apache.
It costs $30

I wore a Bianchi Model 4750 (http://www.bianchi-intl.com/product/Prod.php?TxtModelID=4750) everyday for 6 yrs carrying a S&W 649 as my backup. It was fairly comfortable and and secured the 649 very well. Wore it in all kinds of conditions, running, climbing fences, thru a window.
It's not as comfortable as my Top Line but Top Line is no longer in business. I carried in the Top Line for 20+ yrs.
You're not going to put on an ankle holster and feel immediately comfortable. After wearing one all day for a couple of weeks you'll get where you don't even notice it.

I also have the Bianchi Model 4750. It is quite comfy, but bulky. Alot of the bulk can be cut out by getting rid of the velcro foam pad that is included.

Yup, I got rid of the extra padding too. I didn't think it was needed and can't really tell any difference in comfort. Fits closer without the pad.

Hi, 1BLINDREF,

I bought an Uncle Mike's ankle holster. It has a velcro band that goes around the leg above the calf as well as the band that encircles the ankle area and holds the holster. I like it better than the ankle holsters that just wrap around the ankle. The above-calf band keeps the holster and gun from sagging down to the top of your shoes. Therefore, it stays hidden under your pants.
Uncle Mike's have various sizes for different guns. If I could remember the size for my 642, I'd let you know.
Send me a private email in the evening and I'll look at the size on my ankle holster.

I like my Ross Leather Co. ankle rig, both for comfort and for accessibility. The model I have is made specifically for a "J" frame hammerless.

I used a galco for a few weeks and never liked it much. I now use an Alessi ankle holster and I forget I have it on. I wear it daily anywhere from 8-12 hours.

The DeSantis all leather ankle holster is great. I used one as a LEO wearing it 10-24hrs a day (yes there were those all nighters at work more than once). It's not cheap (msrp is about $65-70) but I've used mine for over 20 years and you usually get what you pay for. DeSantis makes quality holsters that will last your lifetime.

Thanks!!

Thanks to all who replied. I bought the DeSantis Apache rig. I've worn it for 3 days now and its really comfortable. It doesn't slide down my leg and the sheepskin pad cushions my 642 perfectly. For $30 you can't beat it.

Wow, they say you could wear a S&W 659 on that apache rig...i'm skeptical -- that gun is HEAVY. Sure would give a kick some momentum...
