Hi folks. Where can I find information on the importation dates of the jc higgins high power rifle line? I was interested on a jc higgins 270 at 'gunbroker.com' but the guy was not sure it was c & r eligible.

Do you mean the Model 50/51/etc. or was there a Model 270?

The Model 50 was introduced in the early '50s.

Assuming the price is fair and the condition is good I'd be inclined to grab it. Many were stocked for iron sights, which could be a consideration. Haven't ever heard of a bad one. Essex

Yes, BT. This was a 270 with the 583.98 barrel code. Is there a place to cross reference the codes to the importation dates? I read Hawks' article among others, and I feel that's the way to go. Has to be c & r eligible. Don't want to get ripped off on excessive fees to the local gun shop and fees to the state of california. Oops, caliber 270. Sorry about that.
