The word Assualt weapon or Rifle is stupid and i think we as a group should quit using it. Because the liberal anti gun people, oh sorry progressive anti gun people can't call them liberals anymore they changed there name.
I feel we should do the same Assualt weapon what is that anyway if i attack you with a baseball bat thats an assualt weapon to. So lets call weapons what they really are and get ride of this stupid phrase that the progressive anti gun people like so much.
So instead of an assualt rifle, it's an ar 15 semi automatic carbine. Just my thought on the subject how do you feel.

but on the other hand, medias are the one using these words, and the only able to make people change their vocabulary.

btw, here in Switzerland, we use the same word for those select fire military rifles/carbines.

But, in french (what is spoken here in this part of Switzerland) assault means an attack, but in a military fashion.. what you would call an assault on a personne would be an "attaque" or an " agression" ...

In few words, the word "fusil d'assaut" doesnt imply people can get "assaulted" with those..

Neither in German, where the word coms from.. Sturmgewehr .. it does not imply at all assaulting people..

There is no such thing as an "assault weapon." Don't use the term.

A selective-fire, high-power rifle is an assault rifle. The Nazis invented it and Adolf named it. Hmmm, maybe we should find a new name.

An AR-15 is not an assault rifle, as it is not selective fire.

Just use proper terminology and don't try to fake it.

I don't believe we are going to have any affect on the misuse of words by the press.

When they use the term 'cat lover' it's a good thing.
When they label people 'wine lovers' it's a good thing.
'Book lovers' are admired by all.
But when they label us 'gun lovers' they imply a damaging stigma.

It's all in the specific usage and context, and the American press is quite skilled at faking the public using the English language.

It is best that gun owners simply use proper terminology, and demonstrate safety and responsibility by example.

I'd start calling it a "semi-automatic rifle" if it wasn't so fun to watch people freak out when I say "I think I might go buy an assault rifle".

But really, most of the time I say "I think I want to buy an AR lower or get one of those new Saiga .223's" and no one knows what I'm talking about. Besides, most anti's don't like the word "assault rifle"; they prefer "machine gun" to describe it.

Beacuse someone asks you to do something does not mean you have to. You have a right to call it whatever the hell you want. Everytime someone make a suggestion on this forum someone always has to act like the mere suggestion of something is imposing a legal restriction.

I have started using the term utility rifle. Sport-utility rifle would in fact be more accurate, but it comes off as flippant because it sounds stolen from 'sport-utility vehicle'.

A good AR is something you use for all lawful purposes.

I use the term "Democrat Gun" for my AR platform stuff. Worked really great until my 10 year old grandson went out to eat with some relatives that were Dems. They asked him what he did that day and he told them. Grandpa and I went out and shot the Democrat Gun. His mom and dad laughed their backsides off. Needless to say, that part of the family has pretty much broken ties with this side. Fine with us, we pretty much didn't like them any way.

That's very true. When NJ passed it's "assault weapons law" Gov Florio had a press conference. He had the State Police shoot full auto AKs and ARs and said these are the weapons we're outlawing.

I don't want to be beat down by the liberals. I hate having to wonder about what someone will think about my guns. We need to be more vocal, educate the sheep, and tell them its legal to own whatever semi-auto rifle you want to protect yourself and your family. Its not for duck hunting, its not for deer hunting, its to arm yourself against bad guys because harsh words don't work like they used to. Its a weapon, it stops bad guys that want to do you harm, and if we didn't have a rifle, we would be looking for the heaviest baseball bat to use. I'm tired of PC crap making all the gun owners circle the wagons. Firearms helped us get our independence and keep it--guns are good! Go shout it from the mountain top!!

No sir, the problem started when gun owners did not stick together, and said, well, its OK if some rifles are banned, because I don't use that type of firearm...What happens when the type of firearm you like to use gets banned? AR-15, AK-47, M1A, revolver, pistol, shotgun. They are all just firearms, they are only as evil as the person using them! You start in with that "military look a like" crap and your buying into the uneducated liberal ideas. That kind of reasoning will have us all owning single shot rifles and shotguns, because everything else will be banned! I cant believe this kind of liberal PC speak is coming from a gun owner! Oh and why don't you help educate the "general public" instead of joining them?

Yeah, that is hilarious: Why would someone get offended that you have gun named specifically for shooting other Americans for having political beliefs different from yours. I can't imagine why anyone would be offended by that.
