I like the look of the big loop lever but I also found that my big hand doesn't fit in the small one too well, I have to keep my little finger outside of it. When I get the new lever and trigger installed this will be like a whole new rifle again.
The wife made a bargain with me - if I drove her to Vegas and back so she could look at laptops I could buy something. Done with the driving (2 hours) so I ordered up a Skinner sight. You guys won't recognize this rifle pretty soon!
Here is my new transformed 1894 - new skinner peep sight (old front sight removed), new big loop lever, new trigger and sear, insides stoned and new butt pad. Sweet - haven't shot it yet but am dying to!
The first range trip the rifle was box stock. I shot 25 44 mag reloads through it and while it shot ok I wanted to make some changes. So I had a big loop lever installed along with a new trigger and sear and had the insides stoned. I also installed a new Skinner peep sight so I had to try all this out. Plus I reloaded my first 10 44spl and brought them along with a box of 50 Blazer 44 spl. This was at 25 yards.
A lot to test!
I shot 5 of my reloads and I didn't know what to expect as I only put 4.4gr of w231 in them (with a 240gr bullet). they were like shooting .22's! Literally. No recoil and talk about fun! I'll be loading more of these.
But all the first 5 rounds went high, and though I was standing while shooting I don't think it's me as almost all the rounds went high so I may have to get a slightly taller front sight.
I shot 5 more rounds and took a pic of the target. I was shooting at the middle of it.
I shot 20 total rounds at that target, most of them the Blazer ammo.
I could swear that the more heavily loaded Blazer shot a little lower than the real light loads of mine, so I'll be trying it with some 44 mag loads before deciding about the front sight.
The rifle performed very well - I'm the one that's a crappy shot. The new loop lever and trigger helped a lot as did the new rear peep sight.
