I am a hunter and shooting-sports enthusiast. I am a veteran and pursuing a PhD in Chemistry. I recently read through the RCW's with the intent of purchasing a noise suppressor for one of my rifles. I was shocked to find out I could indeed purchase one and pay the federal tax but never legally use it inside Washington State. I'm not sure why this state, who is so progressive in most other situations of personal freedom, would bar an able and upstanding citizen from using a noise suppressor. I have used them in other states and would encourage you to try one for your self. A noise suppressor drastically reduces the apparent noise of a firearm. This is extremely beneficial for people with a passion for the sport since the repetitive, high-intensity noise can be extremely damaging to their hearing. This technology can also reduce noise complaints against shooting ranges. I would appreciate feedback or any response you can offer and will hold either in the highest confidence.

Sounds good. Maybe throw in an explanation that suppressor-equipped guns don't make the quiet little "pewt" sound as portrayed in the movies.

Honestly, if I pay the tax on it there shouldn't be an issue. If they have a problem with suppressed poaching make a big fine to have a silencer and a carcass. The GW has some authority to inspect gear already. This would just be an extension of what they already have. What I posted is what I sent. Haven't heard back yet.

The letter looks nice. I have shown up in Olympia to speak out against gun control bills and frequently written to my representatives and the AG on gun control issues.

There are several things you must know about WA politicians. When I have asked a representative their position on a bill concerning gun control, the only time I have ever received a firm yes or no was when the bill was not coming up for a vote or when the responder was a sponsor of the bill. At all other times I got double talk from both sides of their mouths. They call this politics; I call it being a coward.

You may also be told that silencers "are in fact illegal in the USA". This is what the WA AG ombudsman told me when I asked for clarification on the silencer ban in WA State. I think she thought I was a complete idiot. She told me that the AG does not respond to questions from residents after I politely set her straight. One of my district reps told me I had to change federal law to be able to use a silencer. One letter I got read like it was a cut and paste from the Brady Campaign website. If or when you get an insulting reply like these, the best thing to do is hold your temper in your reply and explain the law to them. It is very frustrating.
