Just picked up a Yugo M70 Underfolder

I just picked up this little toy yesterday. I have yet to shoot it, but the build is beautiful. I'm glad I spent the extra cash for a Yugo instead of a WASR. The fit and finish is great. This is imported by Century Arms, and has an American made barrel. I love this gun... can't wait to shoot it Saturday.

Anything I should know about it? Comments? Suggestions for maintenance (yes, I believe even AK's deserve to be maintained)?

It also has an American made receiver, trigger, hammer, disconnecter handguards, and gas piston.

They are built like brick outhouses and should provide decades of enjoyment.
 
Loads of fun! I have one with a G2 trigger; one without. The non-G2 does exhibit "trigger slap" (the G2 does not, of course), but I've somehow managed to survive it . . . :D
 
very nice congrats. imho they are the best ak's out there for the money and my favorite ak's that i have ever used. great choice over the wasr, you done good.
 
Great suggestions on the trigger, and the cheek weld issues.

Maybe it's just a camera trick, but the barrel looks crooked.

I think it is the picture angle that makes the barrel look that way. Looks good in real life... weird..?

the stock is slighly hyper-extended giving it a crooked look you dont really notice till the barrel.

I'm glad I spent the extra cash for a Yugo instead of a WASR.

Yeah, ive always found it funny how all 4 of my every-part mismatched been through a war, cut down and rebuilt Yugo's outshoot and outperform my brand new production, all numbers-matching WASR's on a daily basis. :scrutiny: Yet it's true.

A friend of mine just picked one of those up and he really likes it. I have the fixed stock version but I wish I wuld have gone with the underfolder now.
 
I got one from classicarms a while back, and have yet to shoot it. I'm set to sell it to a freind shortly,cause i'm not digging the undefolder like i thought i would. I wish i'd have gotten the wood stock version, and still may. But as you said, the fit and finish on these is outstanding, they're well worth the money,and they're more than just a little nicer than the WASR's.
 
I love mine, and it looks exactly like yours. The stock fits me fine, but most people I hand it to to try find it to be uncomfortable. I actually like the black handguards, myself. It's a perfect little knock-around gun.

WASRs often look and/or feel like cheap sloppy junk, but some of them actually shoot pretty well.

The underfolder stocks can get a little cold. Make sure you heat up the fore end by blasting a few mags to even things up :)
 
couldnt you take the underfolder stock off and attach a solid stock to it? Or is the trunion or whatever not made for that?

Either way, nice gun. I'm saving up for M70 right now. Probably get it in a month or two.
 
Interesting comments. About half of us like the folding stock, the other half like fixies. I'm sure the fixed stock is much better for comfort and cheek weld. I went with the underfolder so it could fit in a backpack for hiking, or under a jacket for those unexpected social meltdowns.

Did I mention that I LOVE this rifle.
 
While we're on about Yugo UFs (I have one with wood), who has the best and most reasonable non-metallic magazines? I love the cartridge well enough, but those steel magazines are a bear to haul around.

I'm pretty sure that you'd need to swap trunnions.

Why Bulgarian waffles, of course. They may be a bit more when purchased than a Pro-Mag, but they are military grade and should last forever. Which is cheaper? Paying a little more for a quality magazine once, or paying a little less annually for a replacement for the bargain-basement magazine?
 
These fit PERFECT in a tennis raquet bag. Nosy neighbors think you are off to the courts, instead of the range.
