OK, I've been really wanting one of the Uberti 1866 Yellowboys in a real bad way. So bad I sold a couple of rifles off, and a few other shooting accessories to fund it. Now I know a lot of shooters don't know about these, but they are close to approaching the 4 figure mark ($$$$). A lot of bucks for a lever gun. But I figured what the heck, you only live once. Then I find this:

What would you do? Go ahead and get it hoping that this incident was a fluke or caused by faulty reloads? Apparently there is a tab on the loading gate that is a weak link in the Uberti '66 that can be easily modified so it won't break off.

I think that would be more likely while loading a Henry rifle clone than shooting a '66. Perhaps we will eventually find out what happened. The shooter will be reluctant to accept personal blame for high primers, etc.

What I don't like about the '66 is the brass frame. I have to believe over time it will stretch. I would be more willing to go with a steel frame '73. But that is just me.

I personally use a couple of '94 Marlins for CAS, a .45 Colt and .357 mag. I make sure I use FP bullets, either RNFP or truncated cone FP, and am careful about primer heights.

It sounds almost certainly like a reloading/ammo selection problem. A failure in the gun is not going to cause rounds in the magazine to go off.
