I have been getting suggestions for my new 200 dollar rifle, and while this is not the place to offer NEW suggestions, A couple of folks have suggested the K31. I found this at AIM:

Swiss 1931 Carbin Scmidt Rubin K31 7.5Swiss Caliber
They are Back! These Rifles are world renowned for their Superior Accuracy. The unique straight pull bolt of the K-31 combined with outstanding Swiss craftsmanship make this Rifle Highly sought after. Overall Good-Very good condition, Excellent bores, expect stock wear. Excellent Shooters. FFL Must Be on File to Order!

The price they ask is 90 dollars.
:neener:
Yall are suggesting that I purchase a rifle that costs LESS than I want to spend!
:what:
Are you out of your MINDS!
:cuss:
Isn't there a rule somewhere within the 2nd amendment regarding all available funds going towards a firearm collection.....

Please clarify....

Overall Good-Very good condition,

And, knowing the way AIM grades their guns, they are at least that good!
I say, go for it.

Welcome aboard, Dan the Man!:p

Buy two!

I did that and got a nice post-WW2 model w/ excellent finish on the metal and a early 30s version that undoubtedly kept the Nazi hordes out of Switzerland. Both of course had banged up stocks down by the butt -- something to do with the way the Swiss do training drills.

Best $90 x 2 you could spend. You will have to pay more for the ammo, but then again, the Swiss FMJ from AIM is match quality ammo. Norma sells softpoint ammo for hunting, but that is even more spendy. Apparently reloading isn't too bad -- once you get the brass (you can't relaod the FMJ from AIM), you can use .308 bullets. But do more research on reloading since I am not a reloader.

Enjoy!

Buy one K-31 and use the leftover money for reloading equipment. Or get a Finnish M39 :D . I know you said $200 but WGA has unissued "B" barrel M39's with a sling and free shipping for $230 right now. It uses the very cheap and available 7.62x54r cartidge.

You can reload the cheapo Portuguese ammo if it's still available. It's not nearly as accurate as the GP-11, but is boxer-primed so it can be reloaded. Your handloads can be made at least as accurate as the GP-11 match stuff.

With $100 left over, you can get a set of 7.5 Swiss dies, several stripper clips, some of the cheap boxer ammo and still have money left over.

You will NOT be sorry you got the K-31. I bought mine when they were $110 or so and it was one of the best bargains I've ever gotten.

Besides, it's a great conversation piece. When dad shot mine, he didn't cycle the bolt after his first shot. He was sure it was a semi-automatic. :)

Or you could get one of them & then get a bayonet & spare magazine for it, that will eat up your other $100 real quick :D .

Seriously, they are incredible rifles even at 3-4 times the price. Getting two of them wouldn't be a bad investment at all.

I got mine for $110 and it will shoot 1.5 moa all day with GP11 off the bench. The stock needed a little work, but to have a rifle of that precision for $110, you can't beat it.

Got a tiger stripe stock for $89!

I used my C&R to order one from SOG and wound up with a beautiful tiger stripe stock with a few handling dings, but in great shape otherwise. It also still has the tag of the last issued soldier under the butt plate too. I have to write the guy in Bern and let him know the Odessey his rifle has been on.

About 95% plus bluing on it and an antiseptically clean action, lightly greased and oiled. Very clean bore with just a little dust that cleaned up with a single oiled patch and wipe down.

It looks like it was issued yesterday.

The action is very smooth but I can see why some people say it's a good thing the Swiss didn't have to come ashore at Omaha beach. The action is very refined but looks like the tolerances are too fine for dropping it in the sand or dragging through a jungle.

Great bench rifle though. I'm ordering another next week, after payday of course. I don't expect another tiger but maybe I'll shoot the other one and display the tiger stripe.

You are all terrible people, after reading this thread, I finally got off my butt & sent in an application for a C&R license. Will the madness never cease?

DonP-
What condition did SOG sell the rifle in (good / very good)? I've looked at the SOG rifles but only saw Good, so thought of ordering one from Samco Global because they were graded Very Good. Maybe there's only a cosmetic difference...

The SOG site lists them as good-very good. I'm gonna find out by the weekend I hope.

I got a K31 from SOG. I ordered handpick (+$10), and received a decent rifle. The stock was a bit chewed up, but the metal was all gorgeous. I'd say the bluing was 95%+ and the bore was spotless. I refinished the stock by hand sanding it and using a tung oil finish. It looks pretty good now, and I even uncovered the arsenal cartouche that was grimed over.

I am about to order a K-31 from AIM Surplus. Where can I get a no-go headspace gauge? I could not find one at the Brownells or Miodway web sites.

Are the K-31s from AIM stored in cosmoline?
