I bought a S&W Model 13-1 with a square butt awhile back at a pawnshop. I love this gun it has a wonderful trigger is fairly light and holds 6 357 magnums in a 4" shootable package. I am wondering if there is anyway to convert from square to round I havent found a set of round grips to compare the two. I really hate to take to modifying if someone else has done this and failed. I just feel that the round would be easier to conceal. Is there any advantage to the square.

Yes it can be done, I did it with a grinder and a lot of patience. I took a set of round but grips and traced the outline with a scriber and spent an evening grinding it off.
The best is to have S&W do it. There are a few great gunsmiths who will do it also.

thanks what do you think the price range would be to have this done. I got the pistol at a pretty good price and though I would like to change it dont want it to turn in to a 250 Caprice with 2500 wheels.

thinking of getting a pair of pachmyer (SP) grips thinking of the smaller ones for the round butt just think it would fir my hand a little better. I guess anything would be smaller than the Houge monogrip I have on it now the pach's for the square butt may do the trick not sure.

Rubber grips are not great for concealed use. Clothing sticks to the rubber and prints easier.

I have modified several wood grips for S&W revolver so they are less bulky.

As for round versus square butts for concealability, I'd say it is about a toss up.

I would suggest, if you have wood grips on you revolver get a rasp and start working them down to where they fit your hand better.

yep that is what I am looking for may look for a set of wood grips for a round butt and order some extra patience and give it a try

Did it to my 4" 65. It took a couple of hours with a file. Scribed the outline from the grips off the 3" 65.
