In the beginning of January, I lost my Dozier thorn, I thought at the gun range, and had resigned myself to finding a replacement. So after some online scouring, I found a place that still had a few, and ordered one (they're out of production). About a week ago, I was bringing some stuff into the house from my Jeep, when I noticed my old knife lying on the ground next to the vehicle. I have a gravel driveway, that had been covered with snow since December. This is probably why I didn't notice the knife until recently, when the snow all melted. So anyway, here's a couple pictures of the knife that was left lying in snow, ice, slush & gravel, for about 10 weeks.

As you can see from the pictures, the aluminum handle was completely unaffected by the snow and weather, and the D2 blade was only minimally impacted. A quick spray with CLP and five minutes of careful polishing with a rag completely removed the spots of surface corrosion, and to the untrained eye the knife looks brand new again. Only if you look very closely at the blade can you see the (slightly less shiny) spots on the blade where the spots of rust once were.

I'm thinking of taking an after-polishing picture, and sending them into Ka-bar as a customer testimonial. What say you, does this knife pass the carelessness test?

Yes, but that is awesome that you got it back. My buddy lost his Ka-Bar in the snow and i still have yet to find it. I'm waiting for the snow to melt but its taking forever!

Lucky. Good for you! I lost a Rapala "Big Swede" folding knife when I was sixteen on a canoe trip. Of course I never found the knife. I'm sure it is in the bottom of a lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I saved for months to buy the knife and it was a real let down for me. I also lost a very expensive Randall Model 1 fighting knife on a night parachute drop near Ft Lewis. I bought the knife as a gift for myself after graduating from Ranger School. Of course one could say I should not have been plummeting out of a perfectly good airplane with a $200 knife strapped to me. I remember securing the knife to my ruck. After landing and assembly Someone asked why I had an empty sheath strapped to my gear! Either the knife separated during exit or someone on the flight from Georgia decided he needed the blade more than I did. Again, I felt terrible. Losing a knife sucks:cuss:
