Been looking for a no frills 1911 for quite some time.... am considering on getting a brand new AO 1911a1 made by Kahr for 500. Being i can't find an SA GI anywhere..... and it seems to me the AO made Kahr is closer in looks to the WW2 guns then the SA guns are... But i have had older Ao guns were trouble and jammers.... just wanted to ask everyone who has experience with these guns.... are the good? Or should i pass it and keep on looking.

I like the fact that the review posted shows a pistol with the correct GI style thumb safety. I note that the Bud's illustration shows a conventional thumb safety. Both illustrations, however, also show the "blocky" frontstrap and dustcover that was also prevalent on the first Springfield GI45s.

Does anyone have updated pics? Does anyone know if the slide and frame are forged?

Here's a link to Auto Ordinance's online PDF spec sheet:
http://www.auto-ordnance.com/SS/ss_1911pkzse.pdf

Quoting: "Frames and slides are precision machined from aircraft quality Chrome Moly 4140 investment castings and bar stock."

The picture on the Bud's gun shop site also has angled slide serrations. The GI AO I saw a couple of months ago had vertical serrations and the GI style thumb safety.

The receiver is cast and the slide is forged.
The front strap is a little larger than a 1911A1 and gives it a little different feel.
All in all I believe they did good with this pistol especially for the price.
The factory magazine is no good for JHP or SWCs.

Great review! I was just about to ask if anyone has had any experience with these guns. I'm dying to get a bare bones 1911 like this one.
