I bought a used Kahr P9 covert this week. Using 115 gr. WWB, I'm getting a few failures to eject every 50 rounds. The case gets lodged between the top of the barrel and the back of the opening in the slide, parallel to the rounds in the mag (no stovepipe).

This pistol came with a steel guide rod. The manual says to push the front of the ejector down when reassembling and pulling the slide over the top of it. My slide clears the ejector easily and the ejector can only be pushed down about 1/32 of an inch.

I put a Hogue jr grip on it so I could get a firmer hold of it. Never had any pistols fail to eject because of a weak grip (not ruling it out completely though).

THanks.

Being a used gun, there could have been any number of things done to it.

The first things to do are:
Buy a new FACTORY recoil spring. (It could have been replaced with a improper spring). Once you rule out the spring, THEN you can start playing around with different weights of non-factory springs.

Try a new magazine. They don't always LOOK bad, but can be.

Try a different brand/type of ammo. Not all guns "like" all brands/types of ammo.

Could be extractor problem .Take it out clean it and the spring and hole .You might think of sending it to Kahr for check and upgrading.

Why do I feel like I'm reliving a nightmare

E-mail me. I have new a recoil and extractor spring laying somewhere for that very same covert that I sold. If I can find them, they're free. I'll even pay shipping. If I can find them. I finally broke down and bought a G26 and never looked back since. That gun was a boat load of out of warrenty problems that I didn't even want to mess with even though the seller offered to pay for the repairs after sending back to the factory.

Flip.

I just picked up a used Kahr P-9 and its a wonderful gun.

The "stove-piping" problem you mention is generally extractor related, as the extractor is losing its grasp on the shell being pulled from the chamber. and is falling to be hit by the next round being fed into the chamber.

Examine the extractor to make sure its not chipped or damaged. You might even remove the extractor and make sure everything is clean, no burrs, etc. A new extractor spring might be helpful, as well.

I appreciate the advice. I'm going to start by replacing the recoil spring, and then the extractor spring. May replace the steel guide rod with the original as well.

I've found the problem to be the extended spare magazine. Use the six-rounder and never look back. TWIFI, you're two up on a J-frame.
