I'm almost never home mornings during the week, so I always hear second hand the stories of the leftist bias of the "Early Show". Well, this morning I'm home, so I tune into "Today" and hear that J. Lynch will be on, and think "Well, this should be interesting".

First 5 minutes of the interview go okay, then Katie Couric refers to the Iraqis as the "so-called enemy".:fire:

Then, she asks how the "government manipulation of her rescue" made Ms. Lynch feel.

Lynch's response was that she "was a little uncomfortable at first but overall I'm OK with it".

Cut to incredulous look from Ms. Couric, who keeps pressing to get the all important sound byte bashing the US government.

Sweet Jeebus, folks, there really are media people out there who are determined to convince us that the concept of national identity is over, and that we should just join hands with the EU and bow to the almighty UN.

And I think it goes deeper than just hatred of President Bush. If a Democratic President was using US military strength over world opinion, they'd have the same reaction. (Of course I understand that's much less likely of a D than a R, but there are circumstances that could make it so.)

I think I'll go back to watching on the weekends, when they cover useful stuff, like movie reviews and cooking.

Taped the show. Haven't watched it yet, or decided if I want to. Her book is pretty boring. You can knock it off in a couple of hours. She appears to be honest in that she doesn't take any credit as going down fighting and being Rambo. She was more or less just there. Hurt and scared while everyone else controlled the situation.

To all of those that knock her for the fame, which she didn't ask for, at least she was there and even after all she went through, she didn't start bad mouthing the war or Bush. Better'n many in this country today.

Bill O`Reilly had Diane Sawyer on last night. Sawyer interviewed Lynch also. I didn`t see that interview but Sawyer said she was impressed and that Lynch and family turned down more money.

AFA Couric goes, Fox and Friends is much more amusing.

As for Couric and her ilk, for 1, I would really like to see them try living in some of those 3rd world countries, since they seem to think tha the USA stinks.

I would be willing to place a small wager that after a year, if they were even still able to make use of oxygen, their opinions would be at least somewhat muted.

:cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Oh, Gun-Fucious, you take us back to a better time: When the great KD Couric... that mountain of intellect and grace... presented to all the wonders of her south 40.

Why, what shall become of us when the great KD no longer blesses the masses with such poetic offerings?

We bow to the holy spirit of the grand KD's supreme sphincter.

Regards

greyhound, are we liberating the Iraqis or are they the enemy?

In the context/time line of the Jessica Lynch capture and rescue , the soldiers who were fighting us definately were the enemy. To a soldier, anyone shooting at you is the "enemy" regardless of the politics behind the war.

There's still some "insurgents" and "occupation resisters" (to use the Reuters terms) that are the enemy.

The people of Iraq as a whole were never the enemy, as was probably noted in every official US communication about the war.

Actually, the way and tone she said "so called enemy" seemed to be implying that the whole war was wrong in the first place, in my opinion.
Guess I could have been a bit more clear than to just call Iraqis "the so called enemy.

What are you trying to say? Is this a pro gay forum? I don't recall seeing anything in the rules about having to be gay to post here. Are you a secret moderator, or someone who just has no sense of humor and gets his kicks by playing the PC card? I mean, lighten up man/woman/?

The guy was making a joke

This is exactly what she was doing. Many Americans think the war is/was wrong … or was at least initiated for the wrong reasons.

Huh?
Richard, or do you go by your nickname? Anyway, this whole Bush bashing thing of yours is getting old.....perhaps you should try a new rant for awhile like the enviornmental wackos did. I expect them to drop the whole "Global warming" whining scheme any day and go back to the impending "Ice Age" crud they used to spew. Give being happy a chance, you might enjoy it.

God Bless and Semper Fi, GySgt

I don't so much have a problem with Jessica as I do with the fact that she got a bronze star. FOR WHAT???? Purple heart/yes POW medal/yes Bronze star???? I'd just really like to see the citation for that one. Sorry but that has been bothering me and her name was on this message.

GySgt, I think what he is trying to say is that anti-gay statements, even in jest aren't welcome here. Even those of us who have religious objections to homosexual behavior have (more or less) been able to remain respectful and refrain from such comments. We are here to discuss guns and related issues, anti-gay, racist, antisemetic, sexist, etc. comments aren't really called for or welcome here. Occasionally some get in under the table, but overt statements of those types will receive a very hostile reaction here (sometimes, even from people who might agree with you). The point is that we want to unite gunners, not scare away potential allies (you ever hear of the Pink Pistols). Keep the angry or hateful comments limited to anti-gunners and you'll be ok here.

Chaim and others,

All Bunkster did was put up a picture of Katie Couric, and KD Lange.

There was no anti-gay commetary provided.

Any anti-gay message that someone takes from that is based on their own biased interpretation of the images posted.

Now, Bunkster may in fact be a troll for all i know.

Bu why is everyone so offended by the image of a gay woman?

Lone, I guess I should have put up the quote I was specifically responding to (as I usually do) to prevent a misunderstanding. I'm not making a judgemment as to whether what Bunkster did was anti-gay (I actually don't think so) or if Bogie overreacted (I can't get in his head so I really don't know- it may be reasonable to see Bunkster's post as anti-gay). I was simply responding to something specific that GySgt said, here is the quote my post was referring to:

What are you trying to say? Is this a pro gay forum? I don't recall seeing anything in the rules about having to be gay to post here. Are you a secret moderator, or someone who just has no sense of humor and gets his kicks by playing the PC card?

Oh, and the "even from people who agree with you" part should have read "even from people who agree with the post" or something to that effect because I do not want to imply that GySgt displayed any of the "isms" I listed (he certainly didn't).

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

This is exactly what she was doing. Many Americans think the war is/was wrong … or was at least initiated for the wrong reasons.

Obviously many do, in fact I didn't think it was the best use of our military.

I don't see these shows except on the weekend, when its obviously "news lite" with the aforementioned cooking and movie reviews.

So I was kinda surprise to see such an obvious slant (though I has been warned:) ) on a morning show. In an op/ed piece, yes.

I guess I'm being naive to expect anything else, but I always thought, "Good Morning America", "Today", etc to be fluff shows.

I haven't watched the news on NBC since Brokaw said that "We won Florida!" on the night of the election. They're all the same & still not worth wasting breath or band width over:cuss:

Purple heart/yes POW medal/yes Bronze star????

I believe she meets the criteria for the award. She was not awarded the "V" device.

Bronze Star Medal Criteria:

The Bronze Star Medal may be awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Armed Forces of the United States in a combat theater, distinguish themselves by heroism, outstanding achievement, or by meritorious service not involving aerial flight.

Devices:

Additional awards are denoted by oak leaf clusters. The "V" device is worn when the Bronze Star Medal is awarded for heroism.
