Ok, I'll bite. Why the run on these Kel-Tec 2000 in 9mm or .40 for that matter.

Does Nut N Fancy have that much effect on the market?

Not only that, they are selling for MSRP. What used to be $300 "rifle" is now $400.

What am I missing?

As far as I know they have always been hard to get, especially in the Glock platform. Once you own one you will see why they are so popular, fun guns with some purpose and utility. The ones I got cost just over $300 and I have enough so that I won't be needing any of them at the $400 price but if I was without the $400 would be tempting for at least one.
 
availability and cost=Supply and demand.

They're popular because they'll fit in a laptop case, they shoot the cheapest effective centerfire pistol rounds (commonality with what most people have/carry). Also, the magazines are common, available, work, and cheap.
 
I figured as ugly as the thing was and I mean this thing makes the High Point look special that it would be readily available. I have seen some with replacement forends which helps somewhat.

I was just surprised that there were none to be had on-line and I remember a couple of years ago looking at them and they were slightly under $300.

At $400 it's not worth it as far as I am concerned. I can put an optic on my
5 inch barrel hi-cap semi-auto 9mm pistol.

A 9mm carbine that holds 33 rounds, fits in a briefcase, takes the same mags as my sidearm, and is light weight? Terrible idea and that would never catch on!

A constant - and valid - complaint against Kel-Tec is that they seem to refuse to build out their manufacturing capacity. The Sub 2K's have been hard to find for a long time.

Don't have a Glock, Beretta, Kel-tec or S&W 59.
Don't have a briefcase. Not a double naught spy.
Don't need another 9mm, carbine or otherwise.
$400 +, +

Didn't say it was a bad idea, and at $300 I would buy one as a novelty item and to shock my liberal friends by displaying it in my office, but it just doesn't seem to fill a niche I have open at that $400 price. I was just surprised they had gone up to $400 and that they were hard to come by.

Ah, that's where they all are. So they aren't that hard to come buy. Now it's $400 plus 3% for a CC and $30 shipping and transfer and $100 for a few magazines. Interesting.

I think the Kel-Tec Sub 2K would make for a very nice home defense weapon. In fact, I consider it to be the ideal home defense nightstand gun.
 
We havent been able to get any for my shop for over a year now. Seems kel-tec cant keep up production with any of their long guns
 
I had the hardest time finding one last year. After 3-4 months of searching I finally found one at a LGS and I paid $350 new for one in hard chrome.

It's so accurate it's boring, never had a single issue and it has ingested all types of ammo.

The thing that sold me on it was it's folding capabilities and the fact that it takes Glock mags.
 
Thanks. My question has been answered. Apparently the supply is low, the demand is high hence the market will support the price. Elasticity, and supply side economics. I want a redistribution of the P2Ks!!;)

I was looking for one just for the heck of it and my memory served me correctly but the market had passed me by.

I'm funding some other long gun project(s) hence the fully burdened price of one of these exceeds my desire to own one.

I think I will wait until one shows up locally for a FTF transaction where someone needs a quick $250, no shipping, no tax, no transfer, no NICs$ no buying magazines.

I'm just old and cranky.

Kel tec seems to ship a batch and they are very prevalent and easy to find then supplies dwindle down and they become very hard to find until another batch goes out which seems to not be for sometime after supplies are low. This is a cycle that has been repeating its self for years.

I've seen people pay that when they can't find one anywhere else but they can be had for much less.
 
Ugly? you compared it to a Hi Point, and called it ugly?

Ugly is as ugly does, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'll probably get one someday.
 
Neither would win any Industrial Design of the year contest.

I'll probably get one someday too, but it won't be for its streamlined styling.

This is a bit more aesthetically appealing. I guess you get what you pay for.
 
I took two of my stepsons to the range over the holidays and they both fell in love with my Sub 2000. They are both looking to purchase one and I wished them good luck. I fell into mine when a fellow gun club member sold his for $300. I bought a couple of the 33 rd Glock mags and I have been super happy with it. It is also a favorite of the wife. 4-1/2 lbs of accurate, easily maneuvered high capacity firepower makes it quite desireable. I don't know if I could afford to feed it if I didn't reload. Several hundred rounds a range visit is the norm.
 
I've been on a "waiting list" at 5 different distributors for Glock mag Sub 2K's as long as I have had my FFL (nearly 2 years now) ... ain't seen a ONE.

I wanted one literally for years but I got fed up with waiting and took the chance and hastily bought a High point 995 and to be honest aside from the Sub 2k being able to accept glock mags and takedown I feel that for the money the High Point was a much better value and buy. I handled a Sub 2K at a gun show and the ergos were a bit of a turn off and the gun felt a bit cheezy and not too terribly substantial I'm not sayng the Sub 2K is inferior to the 995 ( I really like the way it takes down and I feel that it would make an excellent truck or BOB gun ) or anything but I wouldn't pay 400$ price tag for one.
 
You guys are LUCKY! Up this way the same gun is selling like hotcakes for $650. And they are all spoken for from a hold list before they arrive.

I was actually on the list for a Beretta mag version but after trying a buddy's 2000 I found that it was WAY too easy to shoot up lots of ammo.... :D Well, that and the overall plastic content was too much for me and when they called me I told them to let the next guy have it.

Now if they were ONLY $400 up this way I might just have gone for it. But then all our guns sell for the US MSRP or a little higher since there's so much red tape to get them imported from the US.

I had both. I got the Hi point so cheap NIB that I figured why not buy it. Today I only have the sub 2000. Both guns are very clearly built to a price point. However, both are reliable and will hit what you aim at. The highpoint is handicapped with 10 round magazines (the pro mags are crap). I also like the folding capability of the Kel tec. The Hi point is cheaper but not by enough to really matter to me. Looks are in the eye of the beholder but the hi point IMHO was truly ugly and I preferred the looks of the kel tec.
 
The sub2k has the most horrible sights I've ever used.

It will conceal. GREAT for a go-bag or trunk-gun. It will bump fire. I had no problem hitting 200 yard steel with it... but the sights suck.
