Hey guys,

I'm new to the world of ccw, I like the idea of having a small 9mm that will fit in my jacket pocket. I currently have a Walther pk380 that is nice, but I will feel better having the additional power of the 9mm (not to mention that the ammo is half the price.) I saw a keltec pf9 for the first time today, it felt good, liked the sights and the size and weight. I have not seen the bp9cc in person however I like the idea of the short reset trigger, and have only read good things about this pistol. Can owners of either/both guns chime in with any advice?

I had a Kel Tec PF9 and wanted another. Was also considering the Bersa BP9CC. Long story short I ended up with a Kahr CW9. I liked the CW9 so much I got another. The PF9 was sold less than a week later.

The CW9 had an awful lot going for it. Virtually the same size as the PF9 but about 5 oz heavier. Can get a full grip on it. 3.6 inch bbl. Long but very smooth trigger. Very reliable and accurate. Nice gun for the price.

I'd consider the CW9 or it's more expensive sister the Kahr P9. Or their little cousins the PM9s/CM9s.

Also of note is the Walther PPS or S&W Shield. The Shield is supposedly a very good/great weapon as most people rave about them. Good luck finding the Shield.

Good luck in your search. Many good choices out there.

I have only owned the PF9 so I'll give my opinion and experience on it. The trigger is loooong, and reset is long too. The is one of my complaints. Double taps or quick shots are hard to do because of this. The finger room inside the trigger guard is very small, if you have large fingers this can be an issue. Reliability is so-so. you may get one that functions 100%, but I was unfortunate to get one that isn't.

Pro's are that it is cheap, lightweight, and very concealable. If I had another option, I'd go with another pistol like the LC9, CW9, 709Slim, etc.

I like the looks of the Bersa, too, but already own the PF9, so not in the market for it. I do own the Bersa Thunder .380, which is an excellent gun. Were I to get a Bersa 9mm, I'd probably go with the Thunder 9 simply because my CC 9mm needs are already met and, for home defense or range fun, I like an all-steel gun. I just like the looks of the Thunder series, too.
Those who think the trigger pull of the PF9 is long might reconsider once they've spent time with its slightly bigger sister, the P11.
I don't know offhand if the BP9CC has the partially-cocked hammer action that the PF9 has (the P11 does not.) Having that action makes the gun "drop safe", meeting the requirements of some jurisdictions for sale within those jurisdictions, but it eliminates "second-strike" capability. That does not bother me. I don't know if that's a consideration of yours.
Read more about them, if you want, at www.thektog.org/forum and www.bersachat.com.
Oh, and the Ruger LC9 might also interest you as well. The Diamondback DB9 is even a tick smaller than the Kel-Tec, but that's probably too small for me for a pistol in 9mm. As snappy as the KT can be, I'd not want anything even smaller. The DB9, being rather new, has mixed reviews, and is not yet "proven" to most of us.
My PF9, by the way, has been very pleasing and reliable for its intended purpose.

Thanks for the insight and the additional information. I'm going to try to handle as many of these guns as I can before I make the call. Reliability is a must, so maybe I should avoid the kel tec.

I've owned them both. Bersa is much more comfortable to shoot and holds more rounds, not to mention comes with an extra mag, BUT the trigger was wayyyy to short/light for a carry gun IMHO. I sold it and got a Kahr CW9 and haven't looked back. The PF9 goes bang everytime, but the trigger feels like junk....the weight isn't what bothered me, it was the cheap thin plastic...feels like it might break, still not as bad as a P-11 though

Try firing the PF9. I had 2 of them and sold them both. It was a good gun and highly concealable. Call me a wimp, but the recoil is quite painful. It is definitely not a range gun. Give it a try before deciding to purchase one.

the recoil is quite painful

Yes, recoil is brisk with the PF9. That's the price paid to have a 12 ounce 9mm. I don't find it particularly unpleasant, but I'm also not inclined to shoot up box after box at the range. I'll put a few through it on a range trip just to ensure reliability and proficiency. And yes, I do recommend the PF9. A few folks have had problem children, but KT's warranty and CS are second to none.

The Kahr pistols ae very nice, bought a K9 for the wife as a triple duty range/CCW/nightstand gun. She likes it, but I find the grip a bit too small (I generally wear large gloves, but my finger length and palm breadth are more XL)

The new Bersa I have no experience with, though it certainly looks like a hybrid of several guns (Walther PPS, Glock RTF, Beretta Nano, a hint of XD).

I had a PF-9. Several Kel-Tecs actually. But I sold them all because I just didn't trust them after some reliability and parts breakage problems with my PF-9. I've never had any problems with my Bersa Thunder .380 or 383A.

I'd take pretty much any Bersa over any Kel-Tec. Better yet, I'd take the CM9 or Shield if the size and weight works for you.

I also cc'd a pf-9 for a few years. Changed to a couple kahrs, cm 9 and cw9. I like them very well. If your looking at the bersa bp you really should look at the glock 19 too. Just a bit lighter in weight ,same width and more rounds with a great 5lb trigger too. You really should look into carry'n on your body. Getting a pistol out of a loose jacket pocket can be slow and unless you live in a cooold part of the country what do you do when its summer time and hot. Still wear a coat? Find a way to cc and do it year round the same. Give the CW9 or P9 a good look too.

LOL, both!

Yesterday, I ordered a BP9cc & should come in Tues. or Weds. Price $333.95 (total $376.45 S/H/FFL fee).

I read an article in Concealed Carry Handgun 2013, pgs 67-69, about this Bersa. Then, did a little more Internet research. I like how thin it is, light trigger pull (4-5lb?), and very inexpensive.

Regards to the PF9, very pleased with mine as a BUG... not a frequent Range handgun, nonetheless, very to easy to conceal.

I like my P11. I've carried it for 16 years, fired 5 digit round count through it and it's still going strong. I did break an extractor a while back, was sent a new one post haste and it's back in action. Round count is high, but I mostly shoot very light reloads for practice. It's a great pocket carry. the Bersa is too heavy and big. Rohrbaugh is smaller, but expensive and is not rated for +P. Kahrs? Meh, I'll keep my KT.

PPS is way cool, hammers nails, nice trigger, and the grip was spectacular. For a step down in size and comfort from the g19 benchmark, I think it owns its class.

The PF-9 is a gamble. A too-large percentage of them do not eject properly. I am one of many who experienced this first hand.

The Ruger LC9 is very similar, except they are reliable.

I like my Bersa BP9. The trigger is very light. I'm getting used to that but if I decided to carry it in a pocket I would make very sure the holster protected the trigger. I would hate to snag it on a button while drawing. That might be enough to make a bang.
