WELL GUYS -
if you missed out on the blemished deal...

midway has Hornady 308 150 grain FMJBT for 112.00 / 1000 right now. that's really a very good price. i just bought a case. it will keep my tikka t3 tactical fed well and cheap for quite some time. and all i use is a little LCL kit...

Looks like Midway is shipping the small "Blemished" orders first. My 17K bullet order is still "Processing" after 2 days. Never seen that before with Midway, they have always shipped my orders the same day as placed.
They must be overwhelmed! Their warehouse guys are probably out sick with hernias.

they may have strained their backs. i only ordered 6000 and weight was 207 lbs. after 17k your UPS guy is going to hate you.

My order of ~2500 shipped yesterday. The UPS man and I have become quite good friends lately! He just says "another one from Midway!" as he taps on his tablet to update the delivery status.

Received the blemished 9mm 124gr FMJs today ... all had perfect coloration despite the warning on the web site that that was the common issue with them.

I'm po'd ... 99% of them have a copper base - like a plated bullet...except there's a ring around it that is the size of what the lead base should be. The effect of the base is to make the bullets .592 long rather than the .558 they should be.

I've written them and am awaiting an answer - first time I've encountered deceptive advertising from Midway .... damned if I paid to ship them here and then I'm going to pay to ship them back!

mine just came in the mail. identical to the hornady XTPs i normally buy. So far, i've seen no discoloration. The blemishes I've seen are where one of the edges of the HP is kind of mushed in maybe 1mm, and I saw several bullet with a sort of circular dent on the base. Definitely nothing that will be noticeable my practice or local competitions.

I'm extremely pleased.

Mine came today as well. Mine look like XTP's as well, but I was hard pressed to se the blemishes. Some of the .41's had slight dents in the base.

Mine arrived today also. My UPS guy has got to hate me. Every other month or so he's dropping off a 20lb+ box of bullets. I've only found one 9mm bullet so far that is lacking the bottom part of the jacket. Half off of Midway's prices for XTP's that are in great shape??!!?! I did the numbers from hornaday's prices. $300+ in bullets for only $103... It's obscene. I feel like I need to wash my hands. But I like it

Mine came today. I ordered 45 cal 350 grain .458 for the 45/70. Some of them the jacket is distorted at the tip but my main worry is that when I miked the bullet they are coming up 0.455-.0456. Anybody else have a problem with diameter?

My 6.5 140 grainers came today...just like the reg bullets i get from hornady...no diff...love this deal

Just got 2/3 of my order today and man am I happy! I just wished I had bought twice the amount. I got 700 bullets in .44 @ 180 grains. Looks just like Hornady XTP to me. To tell you the truth I am hard pressed to find many blemishes at all. The 30 cal ballistic tips look fantastic....... bought 700......should have bought 2,000.

It kills me to see posts barking about bullet irregularities. Was this not a blemished sale? Did the prices not reflect the fact you were not getting perfect bullets.

I also received my bullets today, 800 of the 180gr .44 bullets XTPs for sure, 1000 of the 9mm 124 xtp, 200 168 baltip BTHPmatch.

They all looked perfect to me except for a little bit of dirt from the tumbling process that wipes off easily, and only on maybe every 10th bullet. Thats normal for the full price ones in hornady boxes as well.

They look normal to me, so maybe they are just a Manufacturers over-run sold to midway in bulk without the factory packaging and midway can't say they are perfect and sell them for 1/2 price.

I assume the quote relates to my post. It rather depends upon what the word 'blemish' means - by common understanding, it should mean cosmetic issues and/or a generally lower quality product. However, it should not mean a DIFFERENT bullet.

What I received were totally copper encased 9mm, 124gr ... not plated, wherein the covering is maybe .002, but FMJs that had an .04 solid copper base. That makes them NOT a FMJ (exposed lead base) - therefore, not the bullets I ordered - hardly a mere blemish. The copper base also rendered them, on average, .04 too long.

That sort of issue is not an irregularity - that's a shipment that would require a different, and unusual, powder load and OAL....so arguably, not even safe.

BTW, Midway agreed with me.

What kills me is being judged.

As to my bullet problems:

From midway

These blemished bullets are bulk-packed factory seconds from major manufacturers. For most bullets, the blemish consists of slight discolorations in the jacket. Hurry, at these prices they definitely won't last long!

"slight discolorations" do not cover bullet diameter nor jacket deformity.

BTW, Midway agreed with me.
Of course they did - they have excellent customer service. That doesn't validate (or invalidate) your perspective. It just means that they are traditionally very gracious in their returns.

At any rate, I received my 2000 Hornady 115gr HPBT 6.8SPC bullets yesterday, and they are perfect.

Eventually gracious - it required more than one explanation of a reasonable interpretation of the term "blemish."

blem·ished, blem·ish·ing, blem·ish·es
To mar or impair by a flaw.

n. An imperfection that mars or impairs; a flaw or defect.

[Middle English blemisshen, from Old French blesmir, blemir, blemiss-, to make pale, of Germanic origin; see bhel-1 in Indo-European roots.]

I probably saved 60% or more on my order. I was prepared for some defects a-la-blemished. I got none in 1,300 ballistic tip .30 bulltets. Had 20% not been to my liking I would have still been satisfied. Midway has a classic return policy and I am sure they made good on what problem you may have had. Personally I expect 100% from new premium bullets. Again I could not be more pleased with my purchase. Of course it is my general disposition to be happy, your mileage may vary.:)

The FMJ bullets IIRC were .356 which told me from the description that they were HAP (hornady action pistol ) bullets, not ordinary FMJ. They are very good bullets made for competition, better than fmj.

Hap are made just like an XTP with a copper jacket that is open on the top rather than the base. They are longer than regular 9mm bullets to ensure more reliable feeding. They can also be used in .38 super.

I'm confused. Just what makes these bullets "too long to use" for 9mm. I bought 1000 of them and I am loading them with universal clays, will I have a problem? What COL should I be looking for?

Master Blaster
Actually, they weren't open at either end...I opened 4 of the 15 boxes and each had either 1 or 2 regular FMJs, normal weight and length. The other 98 or 99 were a solid round nose design (not the squared off HAP style) with a .04 solid copper base and thereby, .04 longer than the FMJs.

HAPs would have been a nice surprise - not what I ordered but certainly useful and, at that price, a great deal.

dpart77 - too long if you're already loading at the limit of mag capacity w a substantial load.

sublimemaze41 - I notice the definition does not include substitution of a different product.

Anyway, I'm glad so many folks were pleasantly surprised with the bullets they received at a good price...not everything works out for everyone, all the time - c'est la vie.
