I need some input before I potentially waste several hundred dollars. I am going to be as honest as I can be, because I know there will be some honest replies.
I currently own a Glock 26 (gen 4) and a Ruger SR9c. I started off IWB with the Glock but didn't like it, so I am carrying the Ruger OWB, when I carry.
I have put my hand on a Kimber Aegis. I like the way it feels, and the way it looks. Haven't shot one. There will be some that say that is not important, but I like the looks of it. It is important to me to be proud of what I carry. It may be stupid. I want a 1911 carry gun about the same size as the other two, with a narrower single stack mag. The Ruger feels better than the Glock, and the Glock may be coming up for sale. It's a bit wide for me to pull the trigger as well as I would like. I don't shoot it as well as I shoot the SR9c. If I sold the G4, it allows me to spend essentially enough to buy the Kimber, but I want some input as to whether it is worth the price, and what else is available in a 1911, with a thumb safet about that size. (another reason I don't like to carry the Glock. I don't really feel comfortable without one).
I still use the Glock, but not as a carry gun. It is a house gun, with an empty chamber. Thanks in advance.

You don't mention which Aegis?

I don't have any Kimber Aegis experience, but I do shoot 1911's.

In general terms
- 9MM is often less reliable in the 1911 than the longer rounds such as .38Super, 10MM, and .45Auto the gun was designed for.
- 9MM mags are less common, and often harder to find than .45Auto mags.

...with a thumb safet about that size. (another reason I don't like to carry the Glock. I don't really feel comfortable without one).
I don't know your level of 1911 understanding, but you have to have the hammer cocked to engage the thumb safety. More folks are "freaked out" by a cocked hammer than a gun with no safety, at least that's what all the Glock guys say.:)

If you do want a 9MM 1911, STI is another option. They are probably a little more expensive than the Kimber though.

Keep in mind the proper way to carry a 1911 is cocked & locked. While this may depend on how you're built, I stopped carrying, and ultimately sold all my 1911s, because unless I wore wn undershirt, the hammer would dig into my side. In July/ Aug., I don't want to wear two shirts.
Ironically, my EDC Colt New Agent was replaced with a G26.

Some good points. I don't know much about 1911's. I've never owned one.

I asked about which Aegis above, since another general 1911ism is the smaller the gun, the less reliable they are. The 5" guns are generally the most reliable, followed by the 4"-4.25" guns, and the sub 4" models are generally the least reliable.

Just got one for the wife in the Pro (4") version Aegis. Only have put 60-70 rds. through it so far. 115 gr. WWB, 115 gr. Win. Silver Tip, and some 124 gr. JHP. All shot well and accurate through it.

It only has 1 magazine as of now. 3 more on order in Wilson Combat. I'm told any magazine in 9mm for the 1911 will work. I believe Wilson also has 10 rd. magazines.

As for the value to the price, I'm content with it.

You should compare the Kimber Aegis to the Springfield EMP. Those were the wo I looked at when I was at the point that you are. I went with the EMP and have been very happy.

While probably a fine gun, the Springfield EMP is a unique sized gun. It is specifically designed around the 9MM length round. Other 1911 9MM mags (or other 1911 parts for that matter) will not fit in the EMP.

If you are going to spend that money on a 1911, I'd look at an STI Ranger II as well. The DW Guardian will cost more than the Aegis or the Ranger II, however (IMHO) it is one of the best CCW 1911 pistols, and it will meet you intended purpose very well.

I carry a Kimber Ultra CDP II, and have for around 12 years or so. It is simply the finest carry gun (for me) I've found, and replaced an underwhelming HKUSPC. It has been carried exclusively OWB in a Don Hume JIT slide. If you are looking for a small 1911, I'd definitely look to Kimber or Colt.

I'm actually a Colt guy, but nothing will replace my Kimber.

This is exactly the information I am looking for. I want to know if the Kimber is worth the expense, when I really like my SR9c so well. The Kimber is almost $1000 more. The money is not a concern if it will hold it's value. I like the way it feels in my hand, I like the way it looks, which may be wrong to say but it's how I feel. My Glock is beautiful in it's simplicity, but it is a bit thick for me and I feel like I pull the trigger rather than squeeze it. I will also look at the Colt.

Colt Defender in 9mm is a really good shootin' reliable 3" 1911. You'd have to yank the Hogue grips off of it to get the same feel as the Aegis, but it's a good shootin' gun that is known to be pretty darn reliable.
