Kimber condition issues

Just got his bad boy NIB from a gunbroker dealer. Condition issues on the magazine release makes me want to send it back. Looks like it's lacking some finish. Woodburry outfitters in Ohio (+1 customer service) is willing to refund me but I got a good deal w them and I don't want to have to rebuy it (nor pay a ffl again). I fear if I send it to kimber I wont get it back till next year. What do you think I should do?

It's a magazine release. Sooner or later the finish will begin to wear unless you never replace magazines.
 
The pictures wouldn't load earlier I was at work, but the finish doesn't look that bad at all. I agree with post number 4 on this one.

But stainless is the only way to go if you don't want it to ever happen again.
 
I guess I don't see the big deal either. While it may be worth complaining about (to some people), unless you haven't planned on firing it, it is only going to get more marks on it. Maybe Kimber will send you a new one for free, then you can make it look just like that with your own thumb.
 
It's going to end up looking like that with light use anyway. If you got a good deal then just enjoy it, or purchase the new release and then enjoy it. I wouldn't hassle with sending it back.
 
I really don't see a problem unless the magazine release isn't releasing the magazine. My Kimber has a stainless release and it shows the same wear.

I think you are being too picky. Does the pistol work O K? Then move on.

That finish there is going to come off anyway if the gun actually ever gets used for anything.

Shoot, throw it down the driveway, shoot it some more, refinish the whole thing.
 
Ignore it, it is definitely not my definition of wear or a defect... it is the corners of the mag release... Large likelihood of it looking exactly the same after any use at all.
 
If you got it for a good deal, what is the complaint? If you want perfection, pay full retail and NEVER use the gun. For all you know, Kimber might be willing to send you a new mag release.
Do you drive the car dealership crazy with your search for perfection?
 
That device is checkered to add friction, it is a working part of the gun that contacts the thumb while removing a mag. It will rub in the holster. It will drag on just about any case you keep the gun in.

So, unless you intend to keep the gun in a presentation case, ignore it. If it really bothers you, replace the part if it ever shows signs of rust, I assume you've detail stripped, so you know how easy the mag release is to remove/replace.
 
When completely disassembling a 1911, the mag release is the next to last thing that is removed from the frame, with the trigger the last. It is quite a job. it sticks out, it is handled a lot IMO, it will wear unless you never use the gun. Caveat emptor, when you buy it sight unseen. You could change it but as soon as you stick it in a holster and carry it for a while, the wear will reoccur.
 
You will keep those ugly grips but complain about the mag release. Please.

If like many Kimber's you will have more that that to worry about.
 
Wait until you carry it some. The finish on that gun is going to wear very quickly anyway. It gives the gun character and means that you have been practicing your draw like you should.

Magazine releases are cheap if you want to replace it. Disassembly can be a little tricky if you have never done it before, but YouTube helps.
