purchased a solo in august
i happened to be in my local shop and they had one available
i was in the market for a small 9mm and was considering the solo but had some concerns about issues raised here on THR
i couldnt resist
my first impression was of a nice, pretty, accurate little gun which was a little slippery and quite a handful with the recommended 124 grain ammo, but functioned fine with 115g
since that time, after three sessions at the range (less than 150 rounds total), the magazine release started failing - wouldn't fully depress, or when depressed, magazine would not release
took the solo back to the shop and had their gunsmith take a look
he determined that the slide stop was malfunctioning which in turn caused the mag release to fail (dont ask me the particulars)
sent it back to kimber and after several weeks it returned apparently functioning
when i inspected the piece, however, i noticed a white dot insert missing from the rear sight - very annoying
instead of sending it back again, i opted to just have the gunsmith fill it in and paint it with epoxy
bottom line is that i regret signing on as a beta tester for kimber on this one - and I'm a kimber fan
take a look at Rohrbaugh, Kahr or Ruger LC9 before you take on this pretty, pricey little troublemaker
i hope kimber turns it around on the solo, but its too late for me
