Does Kimber have a true "Custom Shop"? Do they handle repairs? Does anyone have any experience with them?

Call and ask for, say, 20 LPI checkering. IMO "Custom" is a name they gave themselves.

Shortly after I bought my Ultra Crimson Carry II a couple of years ago, I sent it to Kimber for them to put night sights on it. When they received it, they gave me a call to confirm what I wanted. Then they mentioned they saw a little rust in the barrel (I was more than a little surprised by that), and gave me some advice on cleaning it. I talked with them a little longer about the gun, and that was that.

So, based on my limited experience, they do have a true custom shop and they handle repairs, etc., themselves. And they were very knowledgeable and seemed anxious to help.

PcolaDawg, how do you like your Kimber ultra ? i have been looking at the kimbers for about a year and can't decide if it's what i want. i am looking for a compact for concealled carry and i want a .45 . what's your opinion on it ?

It was the first handgun I ever bought, after spending quite a bit of time handling different guns to see what I liked best. I tried tons of them, but that particular gun just felt 'right'.

And I haven't regretted it. It's still my favorite handgun (and the favorite of my kids, nephews, etc.) and I carry it a lot. It's got the CT laser grip on it, but is very accurate with or without the laser. Also, for a smaller gun with a large caliber, I find it easy to shoot. It jumps a bit, but not that badly, imo, and I'm able to shoot quickly and accurately (for me, anyway).

However, it is not all THAT concealable. For example, it will not fit in a front pocket like my 642 or Bodyguard 380. Also, with the beavertail, hammer, safety, etc., there's a lot of things that get snagged when you draw it if you aren't careful. But, like I said, I do carry it a lot. I wear it in a Galco high ride OWB holster when I can wear a Polo shirt or t-shirt untucked and it is easily concealed by the shirt.

I love the .45 caliber and I've looked around for a more concealable .45 but haven't found one to my liking yet.

Hope this helps.

that would be a repair shop.

a "Custom Shop" is some place where you can send in something like this (started out as a .38Super Mil-spec):

and have work done and come back like this:

along with a matching 9mm top end

have never seen any work like that come from the Kimber "Custom Shop"

Nope, they wouldn't dare put a trigger like that on a gun. :neener: :D

They don't build custom guns to specs but will do modifications and repairs. They used to have their services and prices on the website but no longer do.

This is a link to the old website parts and services they listed. You would have to call to see what they still do.
