I have both. the Warthog and a couple of UCs.. get the Kimber..everytime I see "Made in Canada" on the Para I wanna puke. They are both great but the Kimbers are just so much nicer..IMO.
The quality of the Para's over the last several years have been all over the map...not with parts breakages, but with fittings...loose and sloppy as as a [insert crude joke here]. Some slide/frame fits are nice and tight, as if they were lapped and hand fitted together; but most others, well, let's just say they make a Taurus seem like an Ed Brown, and that's saying something.
Carried a Para P14-40 from mid 1996 to Nov 2003 when I changed to Para's C7.45. Both have been completly trouble free. The C7.45 is the most accurate defense gun I have ever owned and the trigger is better than any stock trigger I have ever used.
Accuracy equal to and sometimes better than my buddy's full size Kimber.
I have a Para Limited which was produced right after the initial Signatures were sold off and it runs 100 percent. I'm not sure about Para's current quality but their CS is top notch.
As to Kimber, I would not own one of their more recent models. The first ones (first series) were excellent. I would lean more toward a Colt or a Springer in a used 1911.
I would (and did actually) buy a Para Ordnance over a Kimber. I bought a new Para Single Stack last week and think it is as accurate and tight as any 1911 I've ever shot. I've never really seen a reliable double stack 1911 and this includes guns produced by Para Ordnance. I think their single stacks are pretty solid. Kimber has had their quality issues, as well.
I agree with litework in the fact that the Kimber II's seem to
have issues concerning quality control. Fact is, I sell some of these
high dollar weapons for a living; and I am aware of some of these
being returned for warranty repair due to various problems. OTOH,
every single-stack, single action Para 1911 (SSP or LTC) that I've
sold has been "rock solid"; with NO problems what-so-ever. Most
people report these Para's as being tack drivers; or delivering one
hole groups. And I'm sure Kimber produces some guns that will do
the very same thing; provided it functions properly.
I have a Kimber series II gun and it's worked beautifully for me so far. I'd go with the Kimber (although my personal preference is for a model bigger than the Ultra Carry).
