I am field striping my Kimber Pro I have the slide off but I can for the life of me figure out how to use the take down tool to help releave tension on the recoil spring so I can remove the darn guide rod. I see the hole in the guide rod but I just don't understand how the take down tool releases the spring pressure.

I HAD one of those Kimbers...

the paper clip "thingy" or take down tool fits in the little pin hole in the guide rod.

make sure its unloaded..

open and lock back the slide, put the shorter end of the "L" shaped tool into the pin hole, release the slide, pressure should be off the spring.

take down should be easy now.

let me know.

Pull the slide to lock-back. With it locked back, insert the "disassembly tool" (a paper clip will work if you loose the "tool") then release the slide, slowly. At that point the slide will easily move to the point you can remove the slide lock. :D

It takes a little pressure but push the guide rod until the hole pushes past the end of the slide. Once it does, insert the takedown tool in the hole to hold the spring pressure.

Good luck,

Thanks guys for your help I did the alternative method of disassembly and I would never do that again. Getting that little tool in the rod is hard as HELL!!!!!!! But all of your suggestions helped me understand what to do and now it is cleaned and ready to fire!!!!

Thanks
