Came across a NIB Kimber Solo CDP yesterday, dealer has one left, cost is $1179. Currently riding the fence & haven't been able to pull the trigger. Need a push to one side or the other...I've read the wide spectrum of reviews but am still extremely infatuated with this little handgun, any help would be most appreciated!

Is it made of gold that way to much.

At the moment there are two models out. The Solo Carry (a two-tone finish) and Solo Carry Stainless both have the same price and specifications.

My boss just bought a Kimber Solo at a LGS for $839 last week. Sweet little piece! I'd pass at North of 1G though, yikes!

I've pocket carried my Kahr PM40 for eh - 2.5 years now and I love the form factor. But that Kimber with its aluminum frame and intrinsically greater craftsmanship has my interest. All except for that it's only a wonder 9...

Kimber Solo MSRP $689
Kimber Solo STS MSRP $699
Kimber Solo CDP Rosewood Grips, Laser & Night Sights MSRP $1226

Intrinsically greater craftsmanship compared to Kahr? Tell me another!

I'd pass at MSRP and twice on Sunday. There a any number of reliable, ergonomic small form pistols worth buying at half Kimber's asking price with a proven track record.

With all of their issues, it is NOT a recommended gun for anything but frustrating range trip and definitely NOT for CCW - IF you value reliability

I don't know anyone that is willing to pay MORE than sticker price on a new vehicle. Doing it for a gun makes about as much sense to me. :what:

Kimber Solo MSRP $689
Kimber Solo STS MSRP $699
Kimber Solo CDP Rosewood Grips, Laser & Night Sights MSRP $1226
That's still almost $600 extra for lasers and night sights.
If it's worth it to you, than go for it. I certainly wouldn't pay twice the price for lasers and night sights.

At SHOT last year I was really impressed with the Kimber Solo. It just felt great in my hand, even with the single-action-6-inch-trigger-pull situation.

But.

I haven't seen a review from someone "real" that suggested that a CDP was anywhere approaching reliable until it was sent back to the factory, some require multiple trips.

I'd hold off until the teething problems are worked out, and I certainly wouldn't pay over MSRP for it.

Paying over retail for a gun that usually has to go back to run correctly? Oh well, yeah and HK's are "expensive"!

If I were you OP, I'd price out the grips and sights then find another LGS in the area. Those modifications could be done by you and do not add much value to an already unreliable pistol.

It looks like you decided not to take the advice of nearly everyone in your other thread. Hmmmmmm.

Hey Skyler - I really like my Kahr PM40 and I've put about 750 rounds through it and I pocket carry it basically 24x7. But as I looked at my boss's new Solo basically it felt great and looked like it was really solid and I guess deep down I like a metal frame over polymer in every way except polymer is so much lighter.

It sounds like you think pretty highly of Kahr which is cool because I like mine but can you tell me anything further? Or is it that you think not very highly of Kimber?

Just curious dont want to derail the OP's thread.

My guess is that he doesnt think very highly of Kimber, I know I don't.

I have known too many people who have had problems with Kimber handguns to ever be interested in one.

The last handgun class I went to, there were two kimbers out of about 12 people there. Both failed to make it through the week, replaced by rental guns. One failed on the very first magazine.

I know some people love them, and thats great. But, just like Taurus, I will leave them to others.

No cheap shot at Kimber, when you make as many as they do a few are bound to fail. I purchased a Kahr CW9 for my father as a small carry option and the workmanship on this, their least expensive model, was impeccable. It is accurate, it has yet to fail and at ~$400 it could be made of spare tires for all I care.

I like steel frames more than most but when you match the Kahr and the Solo, one has a reputation for working where the other has stumbled again and again. The Solo may turn out to be everything we all hope it will and if so I'll get in line...or buy a steel framed Kahr and pocket the difference;-).

HKguns,

Not true, bought the P2000SK as I stated but still have an affinity for that little Solo...if I do decide to buy one, it will be in addition to the HK. Shot the HK yesterday & it performed flawlessly, worth every penny! Thanks again to all who responded!! I've got this internal battle going on over the Solo, do I need it, no, do I want one, yeah, can I wait, we'll see...

Picked mine up for a bit below what was listed above. No issues so far. For what I wanted it for it fills that role nicely.

It definitely has a love/hate reputation out there.

The price doesn't sound that out of range over the standard models for the extras.....after you factor in the night sights, laser grips, and front & back strap checkering, meld treatment, that's probably about right.

Kimber Solo CDP (LG)

Actually the msrp on this gun is 1,224.00, the crimson trace alone is 300.00 if purchased seperate. This model also has other refinements that the other two models don't have.

The stainless solo and the solo cary are $747.00.

I've been considering a Solo because it is about the smallest, in it's class, that has a Crimson Trace, lasergrip available.

From everything I've been reading, it seems they have the bugs worked out, but, I'd really like to find somebody local, that has one I could fondle, before ordering one:banghead:.

How do they compare to an EMP size wise. I would love to see side by side pics.

I've bid on 2 CDPs on Gunbroker, and they both ended up selling for $1,700!:cuss:

I stopped in a local gun shop, on Friday, and to my surprise, there was a Solo carry in the display case.:D

I TRIED to not show my excitement, and asked if I could handle it. I knew I HAD to have it! I asked the clerk, "How much?". When he said $659, I laid it down and said "write it up!"

I pick it up Tuesday. Hopefully, I'll get one that runs decent!:what:

Now, I need to try and find a reasonably priced Crimson Trace Lasergrip, and a few spare mags.
