Don't worry about Valkman; he won't badger you for orders. We badger him most of the time, and the Small Skinner that he made for me last year is phenomenal.

Man, I love your knives. The only reason I don't have one is because I tend to beat the crap out of them, and I'd feel terrible abusing such a nice tool. Trixie sure is cute.
go ahead and pull the trigger. what you'd consider "beating the crap out out of a knife" is something one of don's knives calls "tuesday". really... you can have the tool and it can look good, too.
You can get this cheap little knife at Target for $10. It uses cheap single edge utility blades. Once it gets dull, you just replace the blade. This knife is tough. I've abused mine for years. For box cutting and similar duties, this knife is perfect.
I just bought Remington TAC II for $11.95 (regularly $49.95) at Big 5. It seems to be decent quality. I know little or nothing about knives. I do know that I don't want anything expensive. I want to be able to use it, toss it or lose it without getting pissed.
I was a KnifeKnut for awhile.....prior to becoming a GunNut. I was fond of Spyderco blades with the plain edges. I've never been a big fan of serrated edges (though Spyderco arguably makes the best). The only Serrated I have is a Spyderco Rescue and it is meant for slashing through seat belts, etc.
Typically, Spyderco uses VG10 steel (a very good steel) and started offering ZDP 189 several years ago.
Don't be put off when it shows Seki City Japan as that is where the best knife steels (IMHO) are made as well as some of the best knives.
i would go with somthing like a crkt m16. they come in a variety of sizes and shapes, non-serrated and partially serrated. they are a good all around knife and the price is fairly low. you can pick one up at your local walmart for around 20 bucks. they have a medium steel blade that makes them fairly easy to sharpen and have a nifty little stud that protrudes out of the back side of the handle for quick operation in an emergency. i have owned several and enjoyed a long life from all of them with little complaint. hope this info has helped a bit.
