As many of you know we have a close working relationship with TDI, the manufactures of the KRISS weapon system. The carbine has been a big hit for us and the SBR continues to sell well. But many have asked for a pistol version, something that looks more like the SMG without all the NFA paperwork. Something also down the road and individual could fill out a form 1 and complete a SBR conversion.

I am still trying to verify the price. I called the CEO but he could not talk because they were on the range at the SHOT show. In an email he said MSRP was $1649.00, but I am not sure which barrel they are using for that price, the regular barrel or the heavier and threaded barrel. I'll be talking to him later today and should find out more details.

Yes, this is basically the pistol version of the KRISS Carbine. It takes Glock 21 mags, either 13 round mags or with extensions the 30 round mags and is chambered in 45ACP.

very interesting design. saw it demonstrated on the military channel. because of it's mechanism it hardly kicks for a 45acp full auto (much less recoil than a thompson).

be great for law enforcement/military.

I believe the KRISS from TDI may be available for the public and as indicated on the post, qualify as a pistol by filling out the Form 1 to convert from SBR (Short Barreled Rifle) to a pistol.

But many have asked for a pistol version, something that looks more like the SMG without all the NFA paperwork. Something also down the road and individual could fill out a form 1 and complete a SBR conversion.

Many of us who have Glock magazines (45 and 40), KRISS maybe a good option until Glock comes out with a carbine (long overdue and still in R&D?).

I am not too familiar with all the BATF rules and perhaps others more knowledgeable can shed some light on this.

As shown it would be sold as a pistol, same as any semi auto handgun. You would only need to fill out NFA paperwork if you wanted to add a stock and create a SBR.

Having worked with the KRISS carbine, I can say unequivocably that it'd make one of the most ungainly & impractical toy pistols in the history of firearms.
A very expensive "Hey, looka this!!!!!!" with no real utility whatever.

For whatever reason, I just can't get excited because as a civilian I can't get one as god intended it to be used, and that is full-auto.

It's a super cool design and all, but with no FA I just don't care.

Not that I'd turn it down or anything. A dealer in my state actually has Kriss and an FN SCAR for sale(so I hear, its to far for me to go to check them out.

^^^it's a great close quarters tool, my friend. much less recoil, blast, and penetration than a 5.56 carbine.

Why do you say less penetration than a 5.56? A .40 or .45 is MORE likely to overpenetrate than a 5.56.

I find it interesting because it's the first design to really drop the bore axis far enough to eliminate barrel rise, but I don't see it having enough practical value to push anything else out of the market.

How does the front of the magwell on the pistol version not qualify as a vfg?

If I were to add a vfg to an AR or AK pistol I'd be making it an AOW, correct?

So you think the Secret Service, Special Ops, Homeland Security, FBI, CIA might be interested in a silenced full-auto 45 version?

For us, it would make a good home defense weapon that shares the same mags as our carry Glocks. Longer barrel for higher velocity with virtually no muzzle climb shot after shot.

I think the biggest benefit of this gun is the reduction in muzzle climb....which wouldn't be a big issue for a SA civilian version anyways. It's interesting and sure, I wouldn't be opposed to owning one...but I wouldn't go out and spend $1500 on one.

The front "grip" isn't actually a grip. It's part of the receiver/mag well so it's not technically a VFG. You can get an AR pistol and grip the front of the mag well the same way....and there are lowers that are checkered just for that purpose. You are not allowed to add a vfg to an AK or AR pistol (or any other pistol for that matter) without doing the paperwork on it first.

I agree with most comments here. I've seen this thing in full-auto action on TV a year or two ago and thought it was pretty kick-ass. However, civilian semi-auto version defeats its purpose.

Being a KRISS owner I must say its apples to oranges comparing it to a 5.56 mm Colt, Noveske, Daniel Defense, etc.

I have put over 500 rounds through mine and have not had any issues with it. Customer Service was top notch and I have spoken to a few of them regarding a 5.56 or 7.62 caliber and they said it is in the works but TDI will be releasing the 40 and 9mm hopefully sometime this year.

The big hurdle they will go through with moving over to the rifle rounds (which is confirmed) is the technology they will need to hurl a bullet 3000 fps VS 900-1100 they are at now with the .45.

They did say they are working on the pistol version and they will make it so you CANNOT attach a fixed or folding stock to it so it will be a pistol only.

I'm glad to see this come to the market.

There is currently a very small number of semi-auto pistol caliber carbines that offer magazine capacities greater than that of a pistol. Those that do often have mags that are proprietary, or modified, and either unreliable or unobtainable.

It is nice to have options beyond "9mm AR".

But with almost no muzzle climb, does the stock really make that much difference?

Can you do controlled rapid fire (say 1-4 shots per second) off hand?

Honestly if you shoot the weapon in semi-auto fashion it has a .22 kick to it which is next to nothing but the faster you pull the trigger the less recoil you feel with stock extended.

Here are my targets with the EOTech at 60-100 feet downrange pulling the trigger as fast as I could with the 30 round mags. I was a little wild on the far right target.

Yes you can shoot 1-4 shots off hand.



Here is another picture with the stock shroud. I moved the EOTech back since the jackets being ejected were hitting the bottom edge and ditched the magnifier.

The biggest problem is that many times the bolt doesn't close all the way which causes light primer strikes and failures. Once they get dirty, they pretty much stop working.

So what is the ideal low recoil semi auto HD weapon

I spoke to a gent who was a Bushmaster distributer today, and was interested in one of their new models. He was a really nice guy, and once he found out I had some spinal surgery, and issues with disks etc. He told me to forget about the AR platform altogether, his buddy just got rid of all of his guns, "same situation" and was a top competition shooter. I was looking at this because of the recoil being diverted away from the shoulder. But it's kind of pricey for what seems like another 45, which I have enough of. Any recommendations on something that has less recoil but still can reach out and touch someone with enough power to do a little target and hunting with. He mentioned a mini 14, but I was hoping for something a little more exotic, thanks. I would like to be able to have power and accuracy out to 200 yards. There are a group of guys where I live that go for longer range shooting, "ex sniper" old guys like me, but I would be happy to tag along if I could at least feel like I was being competitive.
That 45 looks very cool but I can'r justify a purpose for it unless you were running it in auto or burst mode, otherwise it's a big 45 from my perspective.

I own a Kriss CRB. My gf gave it to me for xmas last year. Im pretty happy with it. FTF twice the 1st time I fired it. That was about 1000 rnds ago and no problems since. Ive fired some really dirty ammo through it and it has never been a problem, it always functions as it should regardless of how dirty it gets. The issues I have with the company are price and poor communication. All of their accessories are extremely expensive and in some cases proprietary (such as the flip up AR style sights). Communication is prompt, courteous, and helpful...as long as you have nice things to say about their product that is. lol All in all I really like it. Its very easy to shoot (my gf loves it), its accurate, and I love the mag ex extended mags and the fact that it uses the same mags as my glock 21. It disappears completely in my Eberlestock pack and, in conjunction with my G21, makes a great addition to my BOB.
