i've been seeing these laser bore sights a lot lately, i was thinking about picking one up myself for my ar15 and 870. i was interested in the bullet type one that goes into the chamber as if a real round and then light up a dot on the target. are they reliable as to accuracy or are they junk? also what to look for and what to avoid.

holly Sh***! i read somewhere that these bore sights are only effect at close ranges which i attend to (50 yrds) but i've never really hear about people using them.

no reason too use a bore sight greater then 50 yd 25 yd is where you should be starting at anyways.

They're good for getting you on paper. But then you still need to make small adjustments anyway. So if you're sighting in a ton of guns, it may make itself useful. If not, but you still want one, they're not that expensive.

I still laugh when people post about laser bore sights, and cry because the first shot after using it was not dead-on.

Do a search. This has been discussed before.

I have a laser bore sight i bought at Cabelas. I love it. Its one of my favorite tools. Mine seems to be regulated very precisely. I can set my cross hairs and remove and reinstall it in a different position and its right on the nuts.

I can get my rifles within a couple of inches at 100 yards. I also use it to preset my open sighted rifles. I almost never have to readjust the windage. Sometimes a little tweak of the elevation is needed but thats about it.

By the way they don't work on handguns. There is way to much barrel movement for it to be of any use.

nice to know guys, i think i'll wait on it and invest on a decent spoting scope in the mean time.
