First things first, in my previous post, I forgot to mention the laser is a 5mw wavelength, there is nothing on the packaging regarding the diameter of the dot itself, but it is tiny.
For the range test I brought a box of 94 grain WinClean, why WinClean? Because I picked up 100 rounds of it at the gunshow for only $25, no other reason. Why only one box for the range test? Because I know myself well enough to know I would have shot all I brought regardless of how many boxes that may have been.
For the first part of the testing I went straight for the steel plates before I even put it on paper because the plate racks are recessed into a bullet catch that typically casts a shadow on them and they had just gotten a fresh coat of flat black spray paint and I wanted to see how visible the laser was, it was overcast during my range session and I thought it would be good weather for testing the laser.
I started at 10 yards and the laser was very difficult for me to see, hits were solid and consistant but follow up was slow, so I closed the distance to 5 yards and after that the plates were dropping faster than I would have believed possible previous to installing the laser.
Satisfied that the laser worked, I went over to the pits and set up a ShootNC human silhoette target, at 10 yards the laser showed up good enough for bullseyes, at 5 yards I was punching holes through the circles in the numerals 6,8 and 9 on the ShootNC, it was then that I wished I had brought more ammo, I comtemplated shooting my carry ammo just to see if 90 grain Critical Defense would have a different point of impact, but I listened to the voice of reason that told me that those 4 grains of difference were not going to have me geting out the wrenches if I had not found any need to mess with the zeroing thus far, but then that got me to thinking about how 102 grain Golden Sabers would work, I am curious enough to the point that I am going to try both the lightest .380 I can find, and the heaviest on my next trip to the range.
Anybody got any suggestions for light and heavy .380 bullets for my next test? I know Wolf makes some 88 grain, dont know if anyone makes any lighter than that besides Magsafe, I heard Buffalo Bore and Double Tap were both making .380 heavier than 102 grains, any other suggestions?
All in all, I am VERY pleased with the laser, and how easy it was to zero before I ever even took it to the range, if you have a Kel-Tec or LCP, its worth the money, however, I did see a BodyGuard retailing for $329 yesterday, but no regrets on my part, the BodyGuard is too heavy for my taste and has way more controls than I want on my pocket gun.
