Learning to bump fire

Yesterday while at the range I thought I've seen guys bump fire their AK's from the shoulder, looks easy enough, I'll give it a try. What happened is after the first shot the hammer would follow the bolt back, stike the primer but not set the round off. I examined the rounds and they had a fairly deep strike in the primer and I was suprised it didn't go off. I was using mixed wolf ammo that has been sitting in mags for sometime now. I put it back it the gun and they went off the second time...

So my question: should I be using something with a softer primer or a heavier hammer spring?

happens when bump firing. Even from the hip. bump firing a rifle is an art to get it done right. Keep practicing and you will get to where you can dump an entire drum. Bumping from the shoulder is harder to learn but once you get it, it is more accurate then from the hip.

Look, most 7.62x39 ammo has hard primers specifically to help keep very bad things from happening with the most common military firearms that shoot that round.

When the guns are operated properly, they fire the ammo as intended. When you do something silly with the gun, sometimes it doesn't quite work as intended. Looking for a work-around to this systemic safety feature so you can do something sophomoric with the gun is probably not really wise.
