have seen cocking leavers on win 94 wraped with leather to help in loading. what type leather is used and where do I get some? only leather around here is boot strings and don't think this is what they use.
all suggestions welcomed

I would say a good guess would be deer hide. If you do leather wrap the
cocking lever it will rust. Leather holds moister and most will tell you to
not even store hanguns in leather holsters.

I have a leather lace on lever wrap if you're interested.
I took it off a Marlin '94 because I didn't like it (not that it was harming anything - I just didn't like the way it fit my hand).
I then sold the rifle. The wrap is now in my "gun junk" drawer (I think).
It did add some knuckle protection when working the lever rapidly.

I'm not at home right now, but I'd let you have it if you'd send me a self addressed padded mailer for me to send it to you in.

I have seen an actual piece of lether and a leather thong used. If you had a wornout pair of work boots you could make you one for free. You could use boot laces. I hae seen it before.
