Lee Classic Cast Press & Depriming

The majority of the primers end up on the floor because they appear to be missing that little pin that is supposed to direct them to the left into the spent primer tube. Did I miss something during setup or is anybody else having this problem?

You need to have the lever in the ram for the priming system to direct the primers down the tube. If not the primers will come out the slot that the lever goes in.

Not sure what lever you're talking about. There is a small pin next to the hole in the ram where some of the primers go to make it into the catch tube but otherwise no additional parts, levers, etc... came with the kit. That pin will direct some primers into that hole but most just bounce off to the right.

Does your press have a slot in the ram that looks like this.





If so then you need to install the lever that seats the primers. If you are using the single stage classic cast then it will be on the left side, the classic turret will be in front.

Here are the instructions for installing the primer arm. It must be in there for the primers to go down the chute. The primer arm directs the spent primer down the center of the ram.

The "lever" rusty is talking about is the primer-putt-er-in-er ARM. You must have it installed to get it to work correctly. Look in the box it came in, it should be in there.

You have to make sure the inside of the ram were the priming arm goes is super clean otherwise the priming arm will stick once in awhile.
I clean mine with a que tip and some alcohol, then give it a shot of One Shot, works great.
I also used some 400 grit sandpaper and smoothed the sides of the priming arms and also some of the sharp edges.
I never have a primer go on the floor.

I deprimed about 500 pieces of brass yesterday after installing that lever and all went down the chute correctly. Thx again!

I also have a Lee Classic Cast Turret, but I rarely use the primer arm, so I just wedge a piece of kleenex or paper towel into the slot to keep the little buggers from jumping out. I've also been known to put a piece of tape over the slot, but that doesn't last as long.

I typically deprime large batches with a Lee universal decapping die, and prime large batches with the press-mounted Auto Prime II. I may be an oddball, but I like to start loading with clean, polished and primed brass. I just take the decapping pins out of my resizing dies.

I just put a piece of soda straw in mine to block the slot. Push it in just far enough that the ram will go down without disturbing the straw. The primers go down the slot behind the straw, not through it.

Want to send the primers all over ? Try a HD RCBS Uni decapping die with a spring loaded pin. Well made tool but don't get the spring loaded pin.
