For those of you that own Lee presses, does the wood ball on your handle move? Mine started to move last night while I was using the press. It's rotating, not actually pulling off the handle. It's less than 6 months old, less than 1k rounds through it. It's a Classic Cast Turret. Just curious if this is normal. Thanks!

The wooden ball on the Lee Turret Presses, pro 1000 and other Lee presses is a friction fit, i.e. it does not use glue to keep it in place. One of mine on a Lp1k stayed in place for 15 or 16 years before it finally loosened.

Mine actually did. After about 500 rounds it popped off in my hand. I stuck a little Elmer's carpenter's glue in there, but after a few hundred rounds it has started to turn again, but has not come off yet. Next time I'll clean the parts real well and try a stronger glue.
So far that is the only malfunction I've had and I'm quite pleased with it. :)

I put mine on with epoxy.:D

I like the size and feel of Lee's wooden ball handles but ... they do need help!

I removed mine, then stuck a snug fitting dowel in it and spun it in a drill while holding fine sandpaper to it until it was clean and slick. Then I sprayed on five coats of Min-Wax "Marine" Poly and let it dry/cure for a week before spinning it again with 4/0 steel wool until it was as slick as an oiled baby's butt. Five-Minute Epoxy was used to reinstall it. This was done several years ago, no problems at all since and it still looks good too.

I really like the idea of a billiard ball too! But I think the "8" ball would be most suitable for me... :D

I have been told that the ball is fastened to the handle with a good whack of a mallet, and that it can be fixed the same way. I don't know how hard you have to hit it, or if the ball will ever crack, but that's the way they are installed at the factory and that's the fix. If mine ever comes loose I have a 1# rubber mallet waiting in the wings.:what:

Mine came off when taking it out of the box. I just put it back on and tapped it down with a rawhide mallet I had laying around.

Thanks, all. A towel for padding and a few whacks with a hammer fixed it.

Anyone else see the irony in using a hammer to fix equipment made by Lee PRECISION? :)

You hint to the old adage of using a "bigger hammer"...After over 45 years as a master mechanic, one of the most important tools in my tool cabinet is a variety of hammers made of rawhide, steel, brass, plastic and rubber. Without these specialized "precision" persuaders the important work of repairing machinery would never be accomplished...Hammer away....
