Anybody know if it's legal to carry concealed at the Nashville Zoo? In my various searches in other sources I got mixed reviews with nothing that conclusive...Thanks in advance...

I live in Tennessee and have not been to the Nashville Zoo, but go to the Memphis Zoo. There is no state law that prohibits the carrying of a handgun at a zoo. I carry at the Memphis Zoo (I went a few months ago) because I have not seen anything prohibiting it legally.

I do not know if the Nashville Zoo is located in a Nashville city park or not....if it is...then that city park can post a sign making it a Class A Misdemeanor to carry in the park...whether you have a permit or not....I have carried on the river walk area park in Nashville...never saw such a sign.....it is a specifically worded sign....39-17-1311 with a lot of legal wording that prohibits carrying in city/county parks.

Now the Zoo can put up signs legally prohibiting handguns at the entrances into the Zoo....these signs must be prominently displayed in accordance with 39-17-1359 (breaking this one if caught and convicted could be a 500 dollar fine). If you don't see these signs then you are probably legal.

Policy doesn't mean anything..or what is on a website..if an area isn't 'posted' in TN according to 39-17-1311 for city/county parks...or 39-17-1359 for other properties....then you can generally carry there.

Check out www.handgunlaw.us for more information on these dumb 'signs' in more detail....it is a helpful website...to help you figure out what 'signs' can get you in trouble if caught and what not in trouble....yes it's stupid.

Thanks, ya'll...Interesting...Very specific on their website, yet there are no signs at the park that indicate this. I appreciate the reply's...
