So, is it legal for me to make an air gun? I've been doing some metal work recently and thought that this would be a great project for me, but i'm concerned that it might not be legal, or there might be some red tape i'd have to get through first.
Thanks alot,
-Nick

Air guns

If building an air gun was illegal - wouldn't the BATF be ALL OVER the 'punkin chunkin' matches? Have you seen them on TV? Imagine an air powered cannon that tosses a 6 pound pumpkin 3000 feet downrange!

My buddy has an air cannon that can take down trees with sand filled coke cans. :D

Not hard to break the sound barrier with that beast.

We are the original home of the punkin chunkers. A buddy of mine wanted a bigger gun and asked me about the laws... I suggested an air cannon and he just went overboard... AGAIN.

We do an 8 pound punkin and there have been a few unofficial shots of a mile but the official record is still under a mile... so far.

Some of them are pretty accurate too. If I remember correctly this van was shot at about 2,000 feet.

The OFFICIAL web site... http://www.punkinchunkin.com/

There are lots of other sites and several real-true histories...

This past year we had over a hundred machines that wanted to compete to throw an 8 to 10 pound punkin a mile!

Rednecks Rule!!!!!!!!!!

never thought about the 'punkin chunkin'

that's cool; i'm thinking that right now i'm just going to build a single shot pistol, pretty much to see if i can. Someday i'd like to make a select fire air SMG but i've yet to find a sutiable power source.

try a co2 or nitrogen from paintball gun. nitrogen can be reliably regulated and co2 can be made to be consistent if you dont mind expansion chambers before a regulator.

airsoft uses gas and some use batteries with a motor and pump.

So is this where you check the loaded chamber indicator? :D

Actually, that is a picture of one of the NEW members of the team.

A new member has to blow into the gun to get the pressure up. If the member is not enough of a blow-hard, they are not qualified to join the team. :neener:

I saw the Second Amendment Gun on Discovery channel. Badass! I wanted to go this year but a buddy of mine that was planning it became a godfather that weekend.
