I got my S&W M21 classic almost a year ago. Just normal cleaning, barrel, cylinder etc but never taken down.

Went out back yesterday to pop some primers and the cylinder seemed a little hard closing. Firel all 6 rounds and went into my shop to check it out.

Took the cylinder off the gun and the area when the cylinder crane and system fit into the gun was wall to wall crud. Cleaned and oiled and all is now well but lesson learned.

I had never seen so much unburned powder and dried grease in one gun before. Guess I am gonna have to start taking my Smiths apart and cleaning them more thourghly each time I shoot.

yikes, that sounds like a lot of buildup.
I stopped using powders that didn't burn completely in my smith (too slow, not enough pressure) because the particles would get caught everywhere, including under the ejector star, which caused a full-stop in the middle of a timed string....

I have two revolvers that need the cylinders removed and cleaned up right now.

I take all new to me guns apart completely and clean, oil/grease, and reassemble.
8000 .22 lr's later and my model 18 still isnt dirty enough to waste time cleaning.
2000 and my model 66 is the same
